The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel; the darling of the dog world! Probably the most versatile of the breeds and known for getting along with people, other dogs, other species and well, just about everything....................unless they have Canine Rage Syndrome:( We adopted Ozzie on the 29th of February 2008 as an early birthday present for my mother. The woman we bought him from had 3 young children and another dog which was heavily pregnant. She said she couldn't cope with all the dogs and the children as well. Ozzie was 3 years old and advertised as getting on with children, other dogs and cats (which was handy as we have a dog and I have 6 indoor cats!) We took him home there and then and gave him a bath which he loved. My sister came round and clipped him the next day. What a sweet dog.......except for thinking that the cats were there to chase. Hmmm, so in comes the stairgate so that we can keep him separated from the cats (who get on great with our other dog). Then just a few days in, this little darling decides to bite my mother's partner - drawing blood. It's just a flesh wound and I assumed that perhaps he had just been a bit rough whilst petting him, that was until he bit me a few days later. He had 'stolen' a packet of cat treats off the side and was growling for all he was worth in his bed even though there was no one by him. I went to take them off him and he bit my finger - right down the bone, blood spouting everywhere. I tried to calm him down but he was having none of it. I had to back out of the kitchen and shut the stairgate and leave him like that over night. The next morning when he saw me, he was wagging his tail at me - like nothing had happened. It was like Jekyl and Hyde. The woman we bought him from had been very vague when I asked questions about him; she didn't have his pedigree paperwork, she hadn't taken him to a vet for vaccinations etc. she hadn't bought him as a puppy but didn't offer anything up other than she'd taken his toys off him as he'd started to growl at the children. She had failed to mention that he bites - how irresponsible.
