What's happened to the clothing industry?

What has happened to the clothing industry?  I took my mother to Red Lobster for dinner on Good Friday. While we were out, I decided to shop around for some shorts(I can't wear anything I wore last year as I have gone from a size 14 to a size 6/8). I went to 4 stores and tried on gobs of shorts, none of which fit me well. The shorts they have out now are cut up to your arse, or down to your knees or below. What happened to the happy medium shorts that covered you decent, but didn't fit to the knee? I look like a total tramp or a little old lady in these shorts. YIKES!  I tried on shorts that had less than 5 inches from the top to the bottom and very little crotch to cover my female parts. Now mind you, they fit, they didn't look bad but I could probably hook up for some money in these shorts, which is not happening. The only person I would be comfortable seeing me in these shorts is my husband.  I finally settled on one pair of plaid shorts with a plain top. They are shorter than I would normally wear, but not too tight.

No wonder 1 in 4 teen girls have an std. No wonder the boys can't keep their hands off of these girls any more. They are virtually naked. It's not all the girls faults. In their size that is all the industry is putting out. There is no middle of the ground shorts out there, they bare all. I am going to go on line and order from Victoria's Secret, believe it or not, I have bought shorts from them that were decent, well fitting and didn't show everything. What an eye opening experience. YIKES!

Some people in the rag trade are doing something about this. Google "modest clothing" and various lines and designers come up. Here's a link to Christa Taylor's site

I totally agree - I hate buying shorts because everything in my waste size is so friggin short. In order to find a pair that is a decent length, I have to go up 3 sizes and then the shorts fall off! Totally annoying...

Thanks sean barr, I will check that out.

Meredith, see what I mean. What are they thinking. We need to start a clothing line for real women who want to look decent with a little sex appeal. Ha!

Great post. I too have a hard time finding clothes that fit right..Either too tight or toooooooooo short for me....Whatever happened to just my size in every area???I mean the jeans fit the butt just right and the shirt hides every thing. Now my spare tire around the gut is showing in all my clothes.....I am glad though they are making the shirts a little longer for the young ones...

I like the shorts from JCPenney made by Erika. They are very comfortable and come in sizes S-XL. They feature an elastic waist with a drawstring. Might not be fancy enough for a special occasion but for running errands and normal day to day stuff they are perfect. The selection can be limited in the store ... more styles and colors are in the JCPenney Spring and Summer Catalog. Peace.
