Words are a person's most powerful tool. Words can soothe and calm, and they can stab and hurt. Worse than a cut from a knife is the power of words. Better than all that money can buy, is the power of words. The things we choose to say to each other, and mind you it is always a choice we make, can lift up or bring down the strongest of people.
How many times have you said words in anger that you regretted immediately? Regretted for a week, a month, a year, a lifetime? How many times have you crushed someone's spirit, their core, their soul?
Compare that now to how many times you whispered softly words of encouragement, words of love. Tender words to soothe that same soul. Words that cemented you and that person together in a bond of familiarity that reaches above the normal barriers we put up against one another.
Compare even still, the words left unspoken, the kind words of love we don't speak for fear of rejection. Fear of ridicule, fear of sounding corny and foolish, or even still the fear of unrequitted feelings.
The power of the unspoken word can be just as strong as the words we choose to speak. When you didn't offer the words of encouragement, the words of forgiveness, the words of acceptance or the words of admiration. The unspoken words can haunt you and cut you to your soul for a very long time.
Oh, that we could turn back time and take back the careless words uttered in anger. Oh, that we could turn back time and find the courage to speak the tender words of admiration that never crossed our lips. Well that is never to be. All that is left is today, tomorrow and all the days to follow.
Let us take the time to think carefully about the words we choose to speak. Let us take the time to form kind words of encouragement, sweet words of forgiveness and tender words of love. Let us be slower to criticize, slower to judge and slower to anger. Most importantly let us remember the POWER of the words we choose to speak and the POWER of words left unspoken.
