Saturday afternoon at 4, I went to a birthday party at what could best be described as a joint, hubby chose not to go. The party started at 2, so you can guess that the people were pretty well lit by the time I arrived. I followed my friend J and her husband E to the party because I had no clue where this particular joint was located.
Now let me explain something to you. I do not drink..period. I love to be around people though and if they drink that is not a problem for me. I just choose to remain sober and in control of my actions, just a personal choice. I have NEVER been to a bar before. I have been to dance clubs with my husband, clean, loud fun places to go because I love to dance.
This joint was small. It is in the middle of downtown and was no bigger than my dining room, living room combination in my home, maybe a little longer. You could see straight from the front door to the back door, which I noticed the minute I arrived. I always check my surroundings for exits, doors, closets, bathrooms etc. , just a safety thing with me. The floor was wood and there was a bar to the left when you entered. There were probably 30 people there with several at the bar. Some were at a table watching the Alababama game on a big screen that was strategically placed in front of the pool tables. The table was covered in food which was offered to me, I declined. Somehow pinto beans, jalapeno cornbread, devilled eggs and beer don't seem like it would sit well on your stomach. I wondered when I looked at the food how many of these lovely people were going to wish they had not partaken of the food...LOL.
The birthday girl R ran up to J and I and hugged us both at the same time. It was good to see her as it has been probably ten years. She looked great for 54. Having just had a face lift, she had few wrinkles. She complimented me by telling me that I had not aged a bit, and perhaps looked better than I did 10 years ago. Must have been the beer..Ha!!
J and I were introduced to all of her friends and each of them had to stand up and hug both of us, can we say copping a feel. Ha!! Anyways there was too much cigarette smoke for my liking so I drifted towards the front where J and I sat down to catch up on our lives. She drank several beers and I drank water.
I find it amazing that I have not had a face to face conversation with J in years, yet we fell easily back into our friendship roles. She is an amazing woman who's beauty shines through from the inside out. R joined us and we talked about the years we all shared together when R ran the local fitness center. We talked for a long while and had many laughs. I stayed about an hour and a half before hubby called to ask me to join him for dinner. What followed is for another blog..suffice it to say the night did not end well.
Oh well...life goes on. The party was another memory for the memory bank.Good times I can recall, at least till the alzheimers takes over..Ha!!
You all have a wonderful Monday. Smile at somebody, better yet, compliment someone. Lift them up and you shall lift yourself up.
peace :) shemelts
