 Swine Flu Pediatric Deaths....
I know a lot of people are all up in arms about the swine flu vaccine and the government's role in dispensing it. I know that we don't want the government making choices about who gets what and when. I get that we all want to be in control, especially when it comes to our children. I don't have any answers on what is the best way to go, vaccinate or not vaccinate. I do know that they are recommending that you vaccinate your small children, and I am thinking it might be the best course of action.

We have had 60 pediatric deaths in the United States, 11 in the last week of September, that were swine flu related (this does not include October deaths).  We had one yesterday in Cumberland County, Tennessee, a four year old boy. We lost a 5 year old boy in Nashville, last month and a 6 year old boy in Ga. How many children are we going to lose to this pandemic? You know the thing that bothers me is that parents think that their healthy child will be okay, that it is mostly the children with chronic illness who are dying. Well the truth is several children who were healthy, with absolutely no health issues have died.  Children who have compromised immune systems, asthma and of course any chronic illness are even more at risk.

Today they released the swine flu shots in our community. They are vaccinating the medical field, then small children and infants, and pregnant women. I can't tell you which way to go, but if I had a small child, I'd be leaning towards vaccinations. Pay attention to the CDC, they don't get alarmed easily. If they think this is going to get really serious, likely as not, it will.

In closing I want to say, I don't know any child who has died from the swine flu. However, my heart hurts every single time I read that a child has died. They are not my children, but they are somebodies child. Somebodies hopes and dreams, namesakes and futures, and they are gone in a flash. I want to say a silent prayer for everyone of these families, and for all the families yet to come who will be affected by this pandemic.

For more information to help you make an informed decision here is the link to the Center for Disease Control's Website. Good luck and God Bless.

Carter (my 4 month old) is too young to get the flu shot and/or the H1N1 shot. When the time comes he will get the flu shot, I don't know how I feel about the H1N1 shot.

My daughter Hailey goes to the Dr on the 16th for her check up and she'll be getting a flu shot, but I will not get her the H1N1.

Whitters..I'm just wondering from your point of view..are you afraid of the H1N1 shot? and could you tell me why, cause I've seen mixed reviews on it. I have parents here that will be the first in line, and some that say.."NO WAY!!" Thanks for your input.

The only thing I can say is my gut. There's just something about it that makes me so very uncomfortable.
Two of the women I work with got their H1N1 shots last week, both have been out since Monday with the flu, or just being sick.
I know that the people who have died from H1N1 did have something wrong with them to begin with - but I don't know, it just scares me.

Sadly, more people (children included) die each year from the regular flu than people realize. This swine flu is just a media driven mess. We all know the regular flu shots do nothing to prevent the flu, so why do people believe that a swine flu vaccine will? It's just a ploy to make more money. Personally, I don't trust any government funded groups, the CDC included, I highly doubt they have our best interests in mind.

Veg..I respect your opinion. About 36000 people die every year from the regular flu, mostly the elderly. What is different about the swine flu is that is killing pregnant women, small children and adolescents at a higher than normal rate. A lot of people do not trust the government. Thank you for your input.

makes you wonder: will it happen to you and your children?

this is one of my favorite mind thoughts, mostly internal and hardly put in public

"But for the grace of G-D this could be me."
