So today I was sitting around feeling all melancholy, when I heard from my 22 year old daughter Sunshine. The message was brief and came via text....but spoke volumes ..."on my way". I waited patiently for my little sweet girl to drive up and bounce in the front door. Oh the enthusiasm of youth, it is a beautiful thing.
Sunshine arrived an hour or so later clothed in a green Hello Kitty hoodie sweat shirt bearing the words "I love NERDS", cutesy jeans and flip flops. She had her hair pulled back and was wearing a beret on her head (borrowed from a friend, no doubt). She was such a lovely breeze of life rushing into my door, that I smiled just to see her standing there.
She announced she would like to go shopping (rare for her). I jumped up and pulled my hair back in a ponytail, and we headed to the mall some 30 miles away. She gave me the low down on the past week's happenings whilst she tuned the radio. She has turned in her senior thesis, and will take it to the printer to have it printed and bound on Monday. Sweet, no? A huge hurdle has been jumped with this, her senior year will be a breeze from here on out. Congrats sweetie..you did it. :)
We arrived at the mall and meandered around a bit. Mostly we looked at clothes/boots she would like for Christmas, hope I can remember them by then. I found some jeans I wanted. Did I mention that I've been running around naked for a while now? Well it is true, so jeans were in order. I like Levis 515's..because they fit my body type well and they are not mommy jeans. You know mommy jeans, they snap right under your breast and do nothing to remind people you are still a sexy woman. We can not have that..nope! Fighting that image all the way, yes I am.
I took said jeans to the dressing room, which was full. I was waiting in the doorway, when a mom/daughter set (both grown women) breezed right past me into the room to find a vacancy. I raised my eyebrows in indignation, to which the mother stated "Oh, were you waiting on a room?" Hmmmm
I replied "Yes I was, but I thought maybe you had princess status or something", smiling brightly. Now I know that was a smart @ss thing to say, but hello..who breezes past someone holding garments, assuming they are not there to try them on? No one right? Right! They quickly made their way out of said dressing room, and I felt quite devilish...OH WELL!!
The jeans fit and all was well in my world, no more naked me in town causing a stir. I bought two tank tops, well three, they were on a BOGO sale, so why not. I bought two waffle tops (also on BOGO), comfy for me and tight enough to be sexy (got to keep the sexy going). Sunshine found two sweater dresses to fit her tiny frame (BOGO), so we made our purchases. Saved $149.00, so for you lady shoppers, you can imagine exactly what I spent...yep! Go Us! **for you guys not in the know, BOGO = Buy one-get one. :D
We came back to meet R.J. at our favorite Mexican restaurant before Sunshine needed to head back to college. We enjoyed our meals and some idle chatter about life. When we were leaving, I stepped out into the cold and let out a big "Whooo Hoooo!!!" and looked up, there was a lady getting into her vehicle staring at me. Sunshine quickly shushed me with a "UM NO!!!" to which we all just died laughing (including the lady). It was funny that the child was shushing the mom, who was just reacting to the cold breeze that rushed at me when I opened the door. She is so mature, no? Sunshine and I laughed all the way home, the lady probably thought I was drunk...um nope.
Today was a most excellent day. All my needs were met, and I was thrilled to spend some girl time with my Sunshine. I might have failed on the social experiments today, but I had a hella good time doing it. Life is good folks. Smile, laugh and keep moving forward.
loves ya mostest, peace :) shemelts
