 Oh Please..Give me a Break...
This is for all the parents out there in Thoughtsville...listen up.
My frustration level has reached new heights. Please if you are a parent of a baby, toddler or school age child under the age of 13..pay attention.

Yesterday in the daycare it was a slow day..Woot!! Nice quiet Monday and I breezed through my morning. B, one of my 3 yr old boys repeatedly said he had a headache. He has severe allergies and I assumed maybe he was getting a sinus problem due to those..no other symptoms. He ate okay and played quietly but just didn't seem quite right. Monday's are notorously bad days for preschoolers due to the running marathon they are on during the weekend. So I thought, well maybe he is just tired. He rested well and after nap I took him outside. He again complained of a headache so I picked him up to touch his head with my cheek..

Note to all..A mother's cheek (or dads) is the best measure of a temperature, absent a thermometer. He did indeed feel warm. I took his temp and it was 99.6 one degree..not so bad, but with the headache and simply not acting well, I chose to call dad at work. Reported that B seemed to be rapidly getting sick and was complaining of headache..etc. Dad said call back if he gets worse and I will come. Now mind you the law is anything over 101 they have to leave..may be contagious..etc.

So about 30 minutes later B is standing in the yard and bursts into tears..he can't walk (looks as if someone kicked him in both knees, though they hadn't). I scoop him up and his temp has definitely gone up 101.8  and he says his legs hurt really bad. AHHHHHH!!! So pitiful. I call dad and leave a message to come get him NOW!!
I hold B on the swing and comfort him till dad arrives.

Dad calls me back in his truck on his way to pick up B. He tells me MOM HAD A VIRUS OVER THE WEEKEND..SHE WAS VERY SICK IN BED THE ENTIRE TIME.. I am like OH??????  WTF?????  So I held B for almost 30 minutes trying to make him feel better..and exposed myself to a virus that kept mom in bed with a high fever, vomiting and diahrrea all weekend. Not only that, I exposed the children who were here to that.
Thank you very much kind parents for informing me that the family experienced an illness over the weekend and that you tried to keep B from being exposed, however should he get any symptoms call immediately. ***this is what should have been told to me first thing Monday morning. Remember that parents. :(

Okay so that is over, I will more than likely get this virus as I am on immune suppressing drugs for arthritis. OH WELL!!
Later last night..I called B's house to check on him. No answer. So I call dad's cell number.. no answer. Mom calls me back on her cell phone. She proceeds to tell me that she had been soooooo sick she could not get out of the bed but to vomit, or go poo. YUCK!! Aches and pains and headache..it was bad. How is B????  "Oh he is fine"..she says. "I gave him motrin and we took him to his grandparents for supper. He ate the biggest meal ever... meatloaf, potatoes, corn, bread, milk"..WTF???

People..let me just say this..if your child is sick..the diet is BRAT..bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Nothing else and they don't get that until they can hold fluids down for a few hours. Giving your child motrin to rid them of the fever and then jumping them over to grandmas to fill up on crap..WRONG THING TO DO!!! After I expressed my concern I explained to the mother that B could not come back to the daycare until he was fever free for 24 hours without the help of said motrin.

This a.m. I have a headache and my tummy is rolling..YUCK!! I have a sprite and some rice that I am nursing. Parents never cease to amaze me in their stupidity. Giving a child medication will likely bring the fever down and take away the aches and pains, but it will not take care of the virus or bacteria that is raging in their little bodies. If you had to spend two days in bed..give him the same courtesy..

Thank you for listening..rant over.

Happy Tuesday everyone..  :) smile things could be worse.

peace  :)  shemelts

I hope you feel better soon. Sounds like you have a lot of good info about raising kids. I hope the parents listened.

My goodness, once again, I wish you were my daughter's provider, her daycare will tell me things like, "her nose was so stuffy and she was so congetsted, I was going to call you..." and "she was wheezing really hard so I stayed next to her the whole time she was sleep to make sure she was okay" when I pick her up, but never once do they call me! They have our house phone number, my husband's and my work number, and both our cell numbers, but never call. Then she comes home sick because of some other sick kid whose parents they probably never called, and we all get it. So much for quality childcare.
