| Nicknames for Children...

Last night I heard from Sunshine..who kindly suggested I give her brother a nickname for my blog. To be honest..Sunshine is what I called my daughter as a baby. She was born at 12:22 am after some hours of labor and over 100 stitches..I had her naturally without the benefit of medication. I did have medication for the stitches..since I knew she was safely out of danger from the meds. When she was first placed in my arms..I was amazed by her beauty. She had long dark hair that the nurses had washed and styled in a large wave on top of her head. I didn't know what to say to this sweet little baby laying in my arms, looking at me curiously. I told her she was beautiful and then I sang You are my sunshine.. to her..She always loved for me to sing to her. She was my sunshine for so many years, in fact the sun rose when she woke and went down when she went to sleep. I thought nothing was more special, or inportant than my baby girl. She outgrew the nickname and prefers to be called by her name. It was just a convenient name to give her for this blog.
Fast forward 3 and 1/2 years and our son is born. He was born at 1:15pm after I was induced at 8 am. Yikes..worst experience ever. Anyway, when he was cleaned up and placed in my arms..I looked at him and said..Oh dear..he is ugly. I know..he is supposed to be beautiful to me..but he looked quite a bit different than Sunshine. He had a Charlie Brown nose..so I called him my little Charlie Brown. He did not like me to sing to him, or rock him for that matter. I think he had sensory overload. I held this boy from the time he was born till he was about 3 months old. He would not let me lay him down at all. He just cried and cried. I always figured we made him come early and he did not appreciate it. I bought a pouch to place him on my chest and that is where he stayed (except when I bathed..I kid you not). After those three months, we were blessed with the sweetest baby in the entire world. Not demanding, he ate at regular intervals, entertained himself and was placed in his bed to go to sleep. A sweet child with a good temperament..he was always my little Charlie Brown.
For this reason... I will call him Charlie Brown in my blogs..ha.
Hope he won't mind. Likely as not, he will never know. Sunshine..shhhh!!!

Great story kiddo...I'm still chuckling:)My daughter was my first born as well and such a beautiful baby....My son (2nd born) looked like a hairless orangutan not a pretty newborn. As I have heard said he had a face only a mother could love. Then again I've seen pictures of myself as a newborn...Mr Magoo comes to mind without the glasses of course...just goes to show the apple didn't fall to far from the tree when my son was born.

That's sweet. I have always called N's baby Angel. Every since she was born I told her she was my little angel.

Oh dear, your description of Charlie Brown reminded me so much of my second son. He was a sideways presentation and his wee face was squashed and red. I decided to always keep the hood of his pram up when I took him out. Then, at 6 days old I left him lying on the rug in front of the fire and when I went to lift him up, his little face had miraculously straightened out and he became my beautiful boy. Thanks for the thought inspiring post and good luck to Charlie Brown.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Just to let you know..Charlie Brown did grow out of his ugly stage fairly quickly. He had the sweetest temperament as well as beautiful curly hair..he was just adorable. He is now a handsome young man..evidenced by the fact that the girls fight over him at the high school. Sometime maybe, if I ever learn to use this scanner, I'll post some pics of my beautiful Sunshine and handsome Charlie Brown. Have a great day!! :D
