 My Legacy...
Of all the things I have done in my life, having children has been the most fulfilling. As you all know I have two..Sunshine is 20 and will be 21 in one week. Charlie Brown is 17 and will be 18 in April. They are the light of my life and my crowning achievement..although I need to go ahead and admit here..hubby helped. I am certain I made loads of mistakes..but they were made in love.  :D

As a parent, I don't think our job is ever done. However, at this time I have to relinguish the reins over to them. They are full grown adults and I want to respect their choices in life. There is never enough words to tell your children everything you wish that you could tell them. Never enough time..and let's face it folks, they don't have time to listen..they are living.

My focus from this moment on will be on catching them should they fall, listening when they need an ear..and supporting their choices..no matter where that leads them. I will always love them with my entire being..nothing would I not do to ensure their safety. Their lives belong to them..and am I ever so glad..that they have turned out so well. :)

This post is a letter to my children..if they had time to listen..Just a few things I would tell them..had I the time and their ear. In random order, each one as important as the other. Thanks for listening...

1. There are no free lunches. As a matter of fact..nothing in life is free. Love is free, you might say. No sweetheart..love is not free. You have to earn everything you get in this life. Hard work and dedication are your friend. Set a goal..work towards it..and revel in your victory, for you will have earned it.

2. Think before you speak..please dear God..listen to this advice. Words are wonderful things..and since you uttered your first words, your voice has been a song in my heart. Words can destroy kingdoms and hearts and little pieces of people that you can not give back to them..Guard your words as if they were nuclear bombs..cause sometimes they can wreak as much havoc.

3. Take care of yourself first. You are no good to anyone unless you are healthy and whole and sane. You have one body and it has to last a looonnnnggggg time..so take care of it..Eat well, exercise and by johnny..sleep well. Sleep is your friend..your body rejuvenates itself..and conquers all that is bad in your system whilest you sleep. So make sure you sleep. Take care of your mental health..relax often and laugh a lot.

4. Find joy in the little things. The sunrise, the smell of flowers, summer rain, leaves changing color in the fall and snow. If I could bottle up all the good feelings that the great outdoors brings to me, I would give each of you a bottle..to carry with you at all times. That way when you are down, or doubtful..you could open up that bottle and breathe in the goodness and freshness that our world has to offer you, perhaps lifting you up..giving you hope.

5. Remember this..whatever you are going through today..is just for today. Things will change..things will get better..Life is tough and some days we drag through..our knuckles scraping the ground..Those days will be few..Brighter days are ahead. Look for the silver lining or the small glimmer of hope that every situation carries with it. Keep in mind...for everything you gain..you give up something. Such is life.. get used to it. At the end of the day..when you are counting your blessings..Count the fact that you are still here and breathing and that thanks to some teacher, somewhere, you can count past 10  (okay I remember I taught you that, but still).

6. Look for the good in people. Every body deserves a chance to be accepted. Don't be judgemental of others. Many a fine book has a worn and torn cover. Give people the benefit of the doubt, and always remember we don't know what they are going through or have gone through. Encourage people and lead through your example. Love is a many splendid thing..it comes in lots of forms. Open up your heart to others and find love in many forms.

7. Of all the things that I want to say to you, perhaps this is the most important. Love yourself..accept your faults, using them to your advantage when possible. Making mistakes makes you human..teaches you..helps you to grow. When you make a mistake..forgive yourself. Look at the mistake from all sides and remember to be thankful for that mistake. We grow more from our mistakes than we do our successes. Learning from these mistakes, teaches us to make better choices.

8. Your life is an open book..One chapter at a time you will write your story. Enjoy the process and not just the outcome. Enjoy every experience..grab it and hold onto it and twist it around looking at it from all sides. Have no regrets..Live for today as there is no promise of tomorrow.

All of my love, mom   :D
