Hi Peeps...Been a little while since I posted. Seems like I just can't get to it. First of all the computer upstairs will not let me post..it will let me comment, but not post. To me this is a bit nuts..oh well!! Been a busy couple of weeks on the home front..we have shifted into gear..preparing for junior year at college and junior year of high school for daughter and son.
First, let us proceed to get the college loans straightened out for the year. Our daughter attends a private liberal arts college and boy is it expensive(about 36,000 per year). This year we received notice that the banks were not as willing to give out Federal Parent Plus loans, as they had been in the past. This didn't mean that we would not get the loan..but simply that we would have to jump through hoops of fire while carefully holding a glass of water in one hand and a small dog in the other.
So folks, I quickly went to work. First I called fin. aid at the college who assured me to just call the bank and they will submit the loan, processing it immediately and walla..college handled for one more year..Not to be. Called the bank..talked to a multitude of people and was told I would have to go through a 20 minute promissary note process online..then I could have the loan..Hello!!! Same loan I have had for 2 years already..but okay. I was able to renew this loan over the phone last year..oh well.
The online process was so ridiculous..I closed it out twice thinking I needed to come back to it another time, when I could devote more time to it. At first my loan and loan amount were on the page..but I could not process this one..had to start anew. So folks, I have 3 loans processing at this bank...CRAP!!! To make matters worse, the young lady I spoke with gave me the wrong information..later recanting her tale and suggesting I call fin. aid at the college and have them handle it. Embarassed I am sure..she did this by e-mail. YIKES!! Long ass story short..I still don't have this loan processed. I will try to do it today. Everyone..close your eyes and pray that it goes through, as I do not have $4000. to hand to the college on Aug. 8th. You don't pray you say...okay chant..do a dance, do whatever you do that works..cause I need your help. K??
And for all you mothers and fathers of babies and preschoolers..start saving..NOW!! college is expensive. By the time your child is college age..WHOA!! Don't even want to think of it. Books...did I mention text books..some of them are $150.00..what are they thinking???
The good news is she has only two more years of college. She graduates in 2010. My son graduates highschool in 2010 (on the same weekend, I think..hmm that will be an interesting weekend) .As it looks now, unless he plans to major in wooing girls, he will not attend college. Maybe a technical program. We will see. This year I hope he gets serious about his GPA..and drops his Don Juan attitude as we would like him to have the college experience.
