A Compliment

During my mother's illness I spent a lot of time at the hospital. Our local hospital as well as the one in the town next to us. You see all kinds of people at the hospital, from all walks of life. If you follow my blog, you know that I am working on being accepting of other people..this is a work in progress. I always look people in the eye and smile..that is just my way of saying..hey.. you and me walk in the same world, I accept you, you accept me..etc. Though I don't always speak to people, most of the time I will say "hello" and generally people will speak back. Sometimes though, people are wrapped up in their problem of the day and can't muster the strength to speak back and I am okay with that.

Anywho, the Friday before mother died, I stepped outside of the hospital (at the front door) to call my siblings. This call was to ask them to come to her side that she was not doing well. I am on my cell phone and it is ringing, people are coming and going as you would expect. A man walks up to me and says "I couldn't help but notice when I pulled in the parking lot..you have the most beautiful hair I have ever seen..It just shines in the sun".
WOW! I was like "Thank you so much!" I was flabbergasted. Of course he did not know who I was talking to or the grim circumstances of the call. I have to say that this man lifted me up..out of the misery I was feeling..if only for that brief moment. It was a compliment from a total stranger..seeking nothing from me. This is the best kind of compliment of course. I will never see this man again, and if I did I would not recognize him. I learned something from him..My little theory works.

Moral of the story folks..You never know when something you say will lift someone up..if only for a moment..out of their misery.
Compliment somebody today. I know I will.
