 25 Years Already....
Wednesday, June 11 was my 25th wedding anniversary. So for those of you who follow my blog..you know that I buried my mother that day. My husband loved my mother more than his own mother, so this was a difficult day for us. Needless to say there was no celebration. We did however reminisce about our dating days and my parents reaction to meeting him. Thought I would share with you, my friends my story.

In our highschool we had needless, senseless fund raisers. Some club or other hosted some rinky dinky game and we all jumped on the band wagon giving said club the funds they needed to do whatever it was they needed to do. ...Hmm..some kind of sentence there..ha!

Anywho..a matchmaking game was offered to us in my junior year of high school. As I had not dated anybody by this time...and I was the ripe ole age of 16, I jumped right on it. The deal was that you did a survey listing your likes and dislikes and the computer would match you with some 10 people that you were likely to slap lips with..ha!  Right!!! The school was even going to go in with the school across the creek...in the same county..but a different school which means people..that you could actually get matched up with some new and mysterious person that you have not looked at for the past 4 years. The potential was limitless and for only $1.00 who could not do it.

I got my list back and I had 10 guys..some who really had some potential..some I would not even approach on a good day. The list included phone numbers..imagine that...the privacy issues that we just dropped by the wayside.  I did not make any calls, though I did share my list with all the girls in my class. We all know girls, it was not long before the world knew..who got who...ha!  I sat back and waited on my phone calls..cause if I had 10 guys..then 10 guys had me. Whew! was that exciting!

On a Thursday night I received a call from a guy. He sounded cute..and we all know how that turns out..Noone sounds like they look, but at 16, I did not know that fact.  He told me I was not on his list, but I was on his best friends list and would I like to meet him? I inquired what was wrong with best friends mouth and why could he not call me himself?  ha!.."He is shy, but he is a great guy and you are the 1st person on his list which means you are really compatible". Hmm..I talk a lot and I am not shy..but okay. I agreed to meet him at our local skating rink. Luck would have it that there was an all night skate coming up and we would meet at that.

I am 16 and all aflutter...hoping that he is not a troll or 7 foot tall or 4 foot tall or the hunch back of Notre Dame.  I get all dressed up in my plaid shirt with the gold thread running through it (does anybody remember these)?  The shirt buttoned up the front and
I thought I was all that and a cupcake..ha!

I get to the skating ring and I meet up with best friend guy and he points out my computer organized top of the list guy. He is kissing some girl in the corner..ha!  I am like "I don't want to meet him..he has a girlfriend"!  His friend tells me.."Nah, that's not his girlfriend"!...ha! I'm like.."I thought he was shy"! ..Umm yeah, okay I'll just keep moving on. Said kissing girl moves on and shortly thereafter best friend guy comes to beg me to meet top of the list guy. Hmm..well of course I am all what's there to lose, and I go to meet him.

He is handsome in my 16 year old opinion..brown hair and blue eyes and he is a smooth talker. We skate and we talk and before long he is kissing me..Lest you forgot, he was kissing another girl shortly before..which I don't have to tell you means that I kissed this girl by proxy...YUCK!!!  In fact, I kissed this dude all night..He is a good kisser folks, so I couldn't help myself..Ha!

What followed was a long slow friendship that was exciting and painful. He never asked me out again..but stayed in touch with me. He told me about all of his conquests..which came back to haunt him believe me. I finally quit talking to him and moved on.

The next year..after I had graduated from high school..he called me one day out of the blue. He wanted me to go to an amusement park with him..apparently I was a last resort..but I went.
What followed was a two year..every single day..every single minute love affair between the two of us. We lived and breathed each other for those two years..only parting to sleep. Ha! the folly of youth.

He asked me to marry him..more like begged and I agreed. On June 11th, 1983 we were married at a park..beside a water fountain. Twenty five years ago...in fact.

P.S.  His best friend was also handsome..in a different way..He was super tall and blonde. I ended up taking him to my junior prom. So that don't sound like they look thingy..sometimes they do.  Ha!
