| Keeping Christ In Christmas
Yes, I realize that this is about a month and a half late, but I didn't an appropriate blog site to post it on. So here it is now...
I was raised in a Roman Catholic home and now I am Protestant. Nevertheless, I was always taught and always adhered to the fact that Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. That doesn't mean that I don't like celebrating the nonreligious part of it. I believe that Christmas should be mostly focused on Christ.
The idea that Christmas has become too commercial is not a new development. In "Miracle On 34th Street" (1947), Kris Kringle, working as Macy's Santa Claus, is having a conversation with a 19 year old janitor named Alfred who agrees that Christmas has become too commercial; saying, "Even in Brooklyn (NY), it has become that way. Don't care what Christmas stands for; it's just, 'Make a buck, make a buck'.
Nowadays, it is more like 'how much [material things] can you get in a short amount of time? (shopping period between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve). In case I didn't say it, when I was little and going to CCD classess, the teacher always told us that on Christmas morning, before opening presents, we should say happy birthday to Jesus, and I have done that every year since then.
