This week I did a total back flip on pay TV, I actually connected which for me is a big deal. Australia has really, really great "free to air" TV and up to 2 years ago I had no problems with it at all, we got all the "free to air" channels with absolutely no problems at all - except that about every 2 or 3 years we had to replace our two antenna's. I had a General Electric TV manufactured in France and it was 23 years old, but one day it gave up the ghost spectacularly going pizzs, pop, bang and flames issued out not only from the TV but the power point as well, blowing all my fuses, and sadly I had to send it to the burial ground of the local tip.
Where I live is a "black hole" for TV reception, (ok I live in the sticks - sort of - only 35 miles from Sydney - but the sticks all the same), I have a 30ft Mast on a 2 story house, so the top of the mast is about 75 ft from the ground and two antenna's pointed in opposite directions, 1 to Bodie and 1 to North Head which means I get all the free to air channels - however this doesn't take into consideration Australia's most destructive native bird the "Sulfur Crested Cockatoo"

They use your antenna's as their personal "home gym", they break the arms off them and just destroy the whole thing, swinging from the cables, so we were constantly replacing the antenna's etc. When my TV gave up the ghost I purchased a High Definition, Digital flat screen (big screen) TV at a cost of $3,999.00 which was a big deal for me as I watch about 5 hours per week. Since then I have had nothing but drama, when it rains no picture at all, pixilation and all sorts of rubbish, no signal etc, have spent more than $1,800 replacing, rewiring, buying boosters, masthead amplifiers you name it I've brought it.
Recently it has got so bad that I have finally got quotes to redo everything, the whole kit and caboodle, cheapest quote $1,500 dearest quote $3,800 and absolutely no guarantee that it will work any better, so investigated cable (although for me it is satellite dish- told you I live in the sticks), for $72 per month I have now finally got a TV that I can watch, unfortunately we also have all the kids channels. Bummer, another resolution gone down the drain.
