 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR BELIEVERS
 It has become an essential part of my Christian life to read and meditate on the Bible every morning. Fellowship and encouragement with other believers is also important, but even more we need the encouragement God gives in His Word.

Yesterday morning I was feeling particularly burdened by the growing attacks on the Bible and on the Christian faith. These attacks are particularly hurtful since they are so irreverent and blasphemous toward the Lord I love and serve. But God has called me into the world of blogging and that is cause for rejoicing and praising Him. I have never had so much opportunity to share my faith with so many people all over the world.

The Bible makes no effort to be politically correct; and deals with absolutes of right and wrong, and that is why so many atheistic governments have set out to remove it from circulation – even throwing Bible teachers in prison. This is still going on in places like China where the Olympic Games will be held this year.

Unfortunately, our own government, (USA) particularly in our public schools, has allowed atheism to become the established state religion. The longer I post online the more evangelistic I see this religion to be. It is not enough to say they don’t believe in God or the Bible - It seems to be an active cause to attempt to destroy the faith of those who do. It is certainly a cause to remove any evidence of belief in the Bible from public places.

Well, the purpose of my Blog is to share God’s Word with all who would care to read it, and to model personal application of Scripture in a format of prayer. But today I just wanted to share a passage that was particularly encouraging to me. It is a familiar passage, but somehow it spoke volumes to me yesterday morning about the indescribable value of God’s Word in our lives.

Psalms 19:7-14
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
Yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey
and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.
Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Yes Alice, they are the reward of life! I am so happy that their parents are taking them to church and teaching them about the Lord. It is my prayer that they in turn will marry Christians and lead their future children to Him. I am already talking to them about this hope (to the ones who are old enough to talk to. :)

As a non christian, I am compelled to comment on your thoughts. If christianity is your belief, that is wonderful for you ... but for non christians their beliefs are just as wonderful for them. We ALL have a right to our beliefs in this country, this melting pot of culture and history. Christians should certainly have a right to their faith, but likewise non christians should have equal rights to theirs. In such a mixed society we have to have an all or none policy, or freedom of religion will be nothing but a joke. By law, we all have the right to convene in the name of our beliefs, but that doesn't mean that others who do not share those beliefs must be included in those conventions. So in places like public school (just as an example since they seem to be an ongoing hot topic for religious practice) if we include christianity in the required curriculum, we must also include judaism, muslim, buddhism, and paganism, just to name a few. Just as I would not want others deciding what I believe, I am sure you do not want others to decide what you believe. How would you feel about these other religions being required as part of your child's education? This doesn't mean that your children can not belong to and participate in your religion, join religious groups and clubs, or discuss their religion with their friends. It simply means that the government does not have the right to force our children to participate in any given religion.
I am not sure about the nature of the attacks you have experienced, and I am sorry that you feel attacked. As a non christian living in the united states, I feel attacked and oppressed on a regular basis. I receive evangelical phone calls. I have christians coming to my door. They shout at me from street corners as I sit at red lights and their graphic signs scare my young child. They stand in protest and yell at attendants of the local free summer music events. They hand me papers at the mall and the airport. There are christian billboards downtown and bibles in hotel rooms. Many of the sporting events I attend begin with christian prayers. There are approximately 5 strictly christian channels on my local cable service which I must pay for every month as part of the cable package. I have watched a friend nearly lose her son in a custody hearing based on her non christian beliefs. I have even been told that my daughter's illness was my fault because I am a non christian. In stark contrast to this, I have never been approached in any forum by someone wanting to turn me against christianity. This is not to say that such individuals do not exist, just that I have never encountered them.

Peace and light to you ~ Grayskye

Thank you for commenting Grayskye.

I am sorry that you have had so many bad experiences. I have not really had many even in blogging, but I have blogs on several networks and have run into some pretty interesting athiests. I actually enjoy sharing my faith, whether people agree or not.

No I would not want people teaching their religion to my child in public school. I don't even like to think of comparative religion being taught. But by leaving out the true history of our country and refusing to even look at various scientific theories, we are in effect making atheism the established religion. This is why we did not send our children to public school, but taught them ourselves using the original founding documents, original diary of William Bradford (pilgrims) etc.

Yes, you would feel more influence from the Biblical world view in the United States, since our ancestors were very open about their trust in God and the Bible. All of the buildings in our capitol give testimony to this as well as the founding documents.

But if you contrast this with China or Russia or other countries who put people in prison for openly teaching their faith, we certainly have freedom of religion in our country. Our founding fathers envisioned freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. The public schools were originally started to be sure the children could read the Bible. Of course as time went on the influence was more humanistic.

Once again, I appreciate you stopping by and commenting.

sharetheword,

Just out of curiosity, have you read the Treaty of Tripoli? I really believe it is a misnomer in this country that so many claim our country was founded on christianity. It was indeed founded on religious freedom, but many of our founding fathers were not christian. I am also curious which scientific theories you are referring to? If you mean creationism, that would be a religious, not a scientific, theory. Appropriate curriculum for a private school or a religious organization, but not for a broad spectrum public school system. It would breech the seperation of church and state. Atheism is by nature part of the all or none policy simply because it is not a religion. It is the absence of religion. If you remove christianity, judaism or the teachings of any particular faith based system from an educational curriculum, what do you have left? The absence of any particular faith doctrine ... atheism. I am very glad to here that you made the choice to home school your children. I think we should all make decisions for our families based on what we feel is in their best interest. Our freedoms at work. I prefer the public school systems because, for one, we live in a very good school district with top notch educators. I am not sure I could do such a fine job on my own (especially in regards to math LOL).Second, I want my children to experience a variety of cultures and beliefs ... something they can't do at home.

Enjoy the journey ~ Grayskye
