when i say "proud," I dont mean that i think i had some part in your success. I mean that you are doing something I admire, and I think you're great and Im delighted just to know you. Dont be offended.
the fourth is, apparently, a big holiday deal for people who work everyday all year round. everyone at the office is taking halfdays all week and going out to lunch and basically going crazy with it. that's good, im glad for them. but work was boring and quiet today for me. lots of data entry and long, long lists of references to enter.
on my way in on my bike there was a bunch of construction, and i was trying to ride among the traffic cones and whatnot when suddenly i saw a barely-visible yellow rope stretched across the rode. i stopped just in time with my spotty brakes and stood there doubled over laughing at how i had almost just clothes-lined myself. moments later another guy on a bike stopped short behind me, almost colliding with me, and immediately began to yell obscenities such as "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING". naturally this only made me laugh more, which inspired him to provide a continued onslaught of swears until he finally rode away in disgust. people are just too serious for me. i wanted to say, Hey, don't go giving yourself an ulcer on my account; youll never have to see me again, and i certainly dont feel bad for inconveniencing you by stopping without warning so as not to crack my head open.
But i didnt say anything, given that I'm a small girl, and I prefer not to encourage physical fighting when it will involve me definitely not winning.
Ive already said that I expect life as an elderly person to just be me in a constant fit of giggles over everything i can remember happening in my life. events and people are absurd and always have been (but i think it's all perfect).
4th of july: when i was a kid my parents always took us to the fireworks, but i usually slept through them all on the blanket in the grass. i have an uncanny ability to remain unconscious during assorted caucophanies. Maybe this is a metaphor (hah).
tomorrow ill try to actually see some, though. fireworks. metaphors are harder to see.
i think i like the holiday just for being a holiday. not in patriotic way at all, though of course id rather be here than a lot of other places i can think of.
ps. DOGS, on the other hand (or pets in general), CANNOT handle fireworks. evidenced by the terrified yelping coming from everywhere.
