You know I wondered the same thing. In the 60's and 70's they were called communes. Now a days they are called compounds.
I personally like co ops, lol.
Actually maybe they should use the word coops. The members of this sect 'holier than thou' was found living in a coop. They were promptly sent to reeducation camps. Where they learned to tie their shoe laces and make macaroni necklaces :)

Possibly because a 'compound' has connotations of being inescapable perhaps. Imprisonment, internment, jail, call if what you will.
A camp is a more temorary pastime.
A ranch is, well its quite gay really -unless of course you really are a rancher and not a wannabe.
Co-ops and communes etc are at least lately becoming more of an eco lifestlye thing. Tho 20 yrs ago a commune had a similar sort of ring to it as a compound. Easy to get into, hard to get out of.
My tip - Take a tent and make sure you've got friends who will come find you.

In this day and age it would most likely be cheaper to live in a 'compound' rather than a town....that may be the answer to all our money problems...we could all live as one in a thoughts.com compound....man what a bunch of 'mates' that would be...fun though..:) S |
