 Power of Attention
I began counseling about a year and half ago.  In our first 2 or 3 sessions, I was given a lessons on positive thinking vs. negative thinking and how that effects the mind, body & spirit.  I knew that already though, I had just forgotten.  I eventually explained to my counselor that I was in physical pain and was carrying around such spiritual guilt for euthanizing my best friend, my 16 ½ year old dog,  in January 2004 that I was giving up and preparing to die.  Bit by bit I was shown what my negative thoughts were and what I needed to work on.  During all of this I kept coming across the same subject mater, Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, >So she preferred not to get up out of her bed for the most part.  One day I told her, from across the room, that I had made her a promise when she was a puppy in that I could send her 'home' to her sister Sarah, (who died of parvo at 12 weeks), and she wouldn't have any more pain.  I just wouldn't be able to come with her.  And she got up and came right to me and buried her face in my legs. (this was her version of a hug).  For the next week, I would ask her various questions such as, 'Do you want me to let you go home to your sister?'  'Do you want mama to send you home to our other house?'  Each time the response was the same, a hug.  So, on January 29, 2004 we went to the Vet.  She had spinal cancer and rarely wagged because of the pain, but she wagged this time at her Vet and then snuggled her face in my arms with her eyes closed.  She fell asleep before she was given the injection.  My spirit knew this was the right thing.  For Angie, she was a spiritual being having a canine experience but didn't know how to go home.  Humans can redirect their attention to what they need much easier than animals, (such as in the case of dieing). humans are capable of letting go much easier.  This brings me to my next point. The law of attraction is really the law of attention.  We get what we focus our attention on.  So everything we talk about, what we feel, what we think about gets our attention.  If our attention becomes focused on it, we get it.  When you focus your attention, things expand and you see a larger reality of possible ways to get to what you want. Attention also works like tunnel vision.  The things that you focus on can tune out all the other things from your perceptual filters. To prove my point, try this exercise: For 30 seconds look around the room for all the blue items around you. It is very important to focus and hold them in your mind.  (Do this step before reading any further, or you will miss the point.)Now close your eyes and try to list off all the yellow items you remember. Do you see how you can filter out things with your attention? Because you were focused on the blue (or maybe the bad in your life) you filtered out or overlooked the yellow (all the great things in your life). That is the basic mechanics of how the "Law of Attraction" really works.  So, what am I putting my attention on?  First and foremost, good health through diet & exercise, writing to give of my knowledge, wealth through residual income, and just being.  Of all the information & books I read, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer; Byron Katie, Rhonda Byrne,  Michael Losier; Stephen Mitchell;  Rosalene Glickman, Ph.D.; Jack Canfield, the best over all author has been Dr. Wayne Dyer.  I've purchased 3 of his audio books and have seen him on PBS; and he comes across as real people.  He doesn't offer or try to sell any program that will automatically charge your checking account every month, or try to guilt you into buying his books.
