Tread lightly upon the Earth and care for it as you would care for your children and let the only path you leave be marked by fond memories.
Mankind has a long history of making things bend to its will. We have blasted our way through mountains to lay railroad track, dug tunnels beneath the sea to make roads and lay cables, sucked the lifeblood oil out of the veins of the Earth and converted it to poisonous fumes and, latterly, we have gouged great suppurating sores in the Earths surface and filled them with our garbage and our toxic nuclear waste.
And still it goes on.........
I'm not a scientist, Im not even an 'eco-warrior', here to give a message about global warming and coservationism. I admit I don't know enough "facts", (for those who need them). All I am is a carer. I am a simple guy, nothing complex. I know that life isn't just black or white and that there's always that grey part in between so I wont offer any intellectual debates about the pros and cons of anything. All I know is that the Earth is hurting, crying out in pain, and we're not listening!
The earth has a voice, it does have awareness, maybe its even more intelligent than we humans, if you want to go down that road. How do I know this? For thousands of years, when mankind was still dragging its knuckles on the ground, the Earth grew trees, plants, flowers, let rivers flow, made the oceans tides move back and forth and generally kept everything ticking over nicely. There were no gardeners or horticulturists back then. Nobody looked after anything, yet the earth not only survived, it flourished!
Fast forward a few thousand years and mankind had "progressed" to the point where his weapons were no longer clubs but were now airplanes, machine guns, bombs, tanks, creations designed to destroy - and destroy they did. All those craters made by man's bombs in the earth's surface did have repercussions to the planet itself. Perhaps we are still feeling those repercussions today. If anyone opposes this view then it would be a timely reminder to quote the physics/ scientific principle that, "For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction!" So, you see, it may not just be other people we kill when we decide to give vent to our childish anger and engage in war!
Then mankind, having not learned its lesson yet, less than a hundred years later began to 'test' nuclear weapons, both above and below ground. Imagine if I took an empty 50ml syringe, stuck it just underneath your skin and pushed to 'test' it. What do you think would happen? Then why do you think it's any different for the earth, for the very thing which sustains your life and the lives of all others here? Of course, not satisfied with their 'new toy' they went on to build hundreds more and even different versions, like the Hydrogen bomb. It was said once, I think, that mankind has the hardware capability to destroy the earth three times over (or thereabouts). Back in the days of the "cold war", there was even the M.A.D policy, (I kid younot). M.A.D stood for Mutually Assured Destruction and simply meant that if Russia had fired Nuclear rockets at America, then the USA would have had time to fire its rockets at Russia. Everybody would die - Everybody - including the earth itself, but hey, at least those two countries could stand on the other side of death and say "Ha! Told you so!" What arrogance! What ignorance! Anyone who thinks in that manner and who believes in the necessity for having such capability should - must - be locked away with all the other people who have deep mental health issues.
God, by whichever name you use, gave us a wonderful, beautiful earth. Not only that, everything he put on this Earth was everything we would ever need to live a happy, simple, fulfilling life. If we took care of the earth, Earth would take care of us. Like anything though, when you add in the human equation, it all goes 'fubar', and now, no matter what you want to believe, the Earth is hurting, crying out in pain, but we're not listening!
The arguements for and against Global warming, the debate about 'Green issues' - none of it matters. You can sit round a table and talk forever, it wont change a thing. What will change things is you. There are a majority of people on the Earth who have children, grandchildren, neices, nephews.... it is to these that this message is especially poignant. You may think or believe that there is nothing to be concerned about and trust and hope that your children and relatives will be ok and have a good life. Isn't it better to know for sure though? Isn't it better to do something you know will work towards that? You dont have to go sailing round the oceans in a greenpeace boat, your dont have to chain yourself to a tree, all you have to do is, at every single opportunity, teach your children and others to live a more caring, thoughtful life. Instil the proper values in them now, and the Earth and all who live on her will reap the benefits of what you sow. Do nothing and maybe your children and all other children will join you on the other side of death sooner than either of you had wished!
Peace!

I totally agree with you! I wish many people will read this and make some changes in their own unique way. They say: "the journey of a thousand miles begin with one small step."

The earth truly breathes.
Maybe all the scare it is giving us humans, is a rebel riot against our abuse of it.
Great entry!!

Humanity's belief in its 'superior intellect' could well be its undoing DS. Who knows?
