We used to go for family walks when I was a kid and my mother would often look at huge, old trees and say, "Just imagine what they would say if they could talk, if they had a voice." I guess that is where I got my love of walking and of nature.
Trees are one of the things that we humans take too easily and for granted. To many, a tree is "only" so much wood - a resource - to be used, turned into paper, a log cabin or even just firewood. Yet trees are so much more than this if you only take the time to see.
There are many types of tree and although I am no expert on them, when I look at trees, I may see more than most. I am not a 'hippy tree hugger' but acknowledge and respect the Spirit in the tree, as it is that same Spirit which is in me.
Most trees have strong, hidden foundations which root them to this Physical world, this earth, whilst above, their 'arms' are raised towards the heavens in silent praise and supplication. They ask for naught because all of their needs are being met already.
Through the seasons, they show us the cycle of death and rebirth, of old things coming to an end and new things starting again. It seems as if they 'die' during winter and yet they are 're-born' in the spring again. Through out the year, they provide shelter amd warmth for many of the other forms of life which we share this planet with.
Trees have humbly contributed to so much of the progress attributed to mankind, without acknowlegement nor complaint. Without trees, the planet would be starved of oxygen and we would all die, such is their importance!
Things may come and go, they change. Seasons, years, decades pass and we live through the whole gamut of human emotions. Focusing on the crises and finding something to smile about, sometimes. Throughout this, trees stand tall and silent, seeing and witnessing it all. Neither judging, nor supporting, simply 'being'.
As my mother used to say, "If only they could speak, what a story they could tell...."
