It was the height of summer, and even the night was hot and humid, so having opened windows was a necessity. There was not even a breath of air, not even a hint of a breeze to be felt at all. I was on night shift duty with one other nurse. Traditionally a time when most terminal people pass across the threshold between the worlds and leave this place behind.
At about 2.30am the long curtain covering the window suddenly lifted up as if something (or someone?) had just stepped through into the room. Of course there was no one there and the curtain fell back again. On a hunch, the other nurse and I went to check our patients - just in time to find one of the terminal cases taking his last few stunted breaths. We prided ourselves on making sure that no patient ever died without someone by their side, and they never did!
Returning to the duty room, we contacted the doctor and began the 'last offices' for the deceased. After about half an hour to forty five minutes, with the doctor having announced the death, all was still and silent again with that strange deeper quality to it that always occurs after someone has passed away. The doctor, the other nurse and I were all in the room, writing notes, etc. Suddenly, the curtain which had earlier billowed up into the room, now was pulled half out of the window, as if something, (or someone?) had walked against it as they exited the room through the window.
Perhaps we had just witnessed the arrival of a guide for the departing Soul? Perhaps not. Perhaps we had just seen a curtain playing tricks on all of us of its own accord, who can say? I prefer to believe the former. I know, I was there!
Another time, I sat with a terminal man whom we had all come to know and love over the period of his six months incarceraton in hospital. Earlier in the day, we could tell that he would go soon and so, it was decided that someone would always be with him as he could 'go' at any point and we never let anyone die alone.
Later in the evening, he was in the process of dying and I was sitting with him, holding his hand and literally watching his Spirit leave his body through the third eye centre in the middle of his forehead. This is one of the 'gateways' of the physical body. To those who find diffculty in lucid sight, it would have looked akin to the 'heatwave' you see coming off a roadway on a hot day. To those who can see clearer, it is a pearlescent, colourful array of energy that flows out of the body and begins to slowly take form over and above the physical body. Not all the other nurses could see this of course let alone believe it but it was a humbling and very nice experience.
These are two 'snippets' of experiential information which may help others to understand that life does go on after death. I hope so anyway.
