I have always loved the sea, the ocean, being at the coast and going for long walks next to, or on, the beach. I envy people who live close enough to walk there every day, although they may not appreciate it as I do.
I have never had 'sea legs' and even felt sick on a ferry trip down the (rather choppy) river but I love to look at the water and to allow my mind to go off, surfing the waves while I stand and watch like an anxious parent watches a child.
Each wave, no matter how large or small, brings with it a sense of fulfillment. As if the wave, having achieved its goal of reaching the beach, can collapse, exhausted. Each wave has the potential of having come from the other side of the world, in fact from anywhere in the world. In some ways, it has.
The ocean too, deep, mysterious, lets nothing halt its slow and steady progress. It can rise above and flow over all obstacles. It accepts everything into its comforting, dark, soothing folds and continues on, regardless. Who can say what secrets it keeps since we humans have not, yet, charted every inch of it at the same time.
The sea stretches from one side of the world to the other. If only we could 'walk on water', we could transcend another of our physical barriers. The vast ocean connects us while also keeping us divided but, like Spirit, the connection lies mostly unseen and only the division is noted by our tired, cynical, world-weary eyes.
As humans we have had this need to name things to make things 'orderly' and in this way, man has named the seven seas. In truth though, the seas are (mostly) connected one to another. We may have different names for the different seas yet it is all one and the same thing.
What a pity that so many cannot see this relation when it comes to religious belief also. We all have many different names for who and what we believe, yet it IS all one and the same thing. Just like the sea, it too flows on, regardless of our divisions and obstacles.
I wonder what others see when they see the sea?

I am one of those fortunate people who live by the sea. In Donegal our house is at the most Northerly point of Ireland and our nearest neighbours beyond the Atlantic are in America. I never tire of the changing scene as the wind whips up the waves and the moon stills them. It makes make so aware of how powerful it is as it gives and takes away. On stormy nights I think of those fisherman so many years ago who lost their lives doing what they had to do. Most of all I am reminded of Our Maker whose hand is in everything around us. Best wishes Scotslad
I live on the Southern Oregon coast about 60 miles north of California, The coast line here is broken with youngest rocks on the content, ,I love watching the gray whales go by on there trip to alaska. Winter is on it's way and that meens winter storms,30 foot waves,40 to 90 mile per hour winds, its awesome.
This is an amazing way to look at the Sea.
I have always been fascinated with the ocean.
I have had some of my best religious experiences sitting in front of it in the sand.
I lived an hour and a half away from the ocean for about 13 years.
The sound of it even reminded me of another world voice shouting at me.
There is one God....just like the one ocean...but we have so many different names for the Great Waters of the world.
The sea..ocean...tide..The Deep.
If we could all see this.
We are all one creation.
You do SEE.

The ocean (body of water) calls to me constantly. One is so blessed to live by the ocean and hear the rhythmic beat of the waves and the enchanting cry of the seagull.
One should never judge another for their religious beliefs. Awesome post my dear friend. Thank you for your lovely comments you have left behind in my posts. They all are such a bright light. Thanks for your blessed friendship. Much love here,
Kim
The sea holds such mystery and power, someone once told me, the ocean was like a big 'puddle' just separating countries.
my first love is the sea, sadly live about an hour away. the grace of it, power and the might - you can gaze at it and just get immersed in its beauty.
when its calm it hides deception, looks innocent, yet 'she' can alter at anytime, from tranquil, to full power and raging force.
[think you can guess, i adore the sea, moreso when its rough, i feel its a place i can sit, watch and really 'lose' myself in thought]
its surprising how many dont really take in such beauty of virtually everything within our surroundings/enviroment - whether it be the sea or something like the sky for example..and just reflect, slip from reality and admire.
The ocean has always been a love of mine. My favorite thing to do is sit on a blanket on the sand and read or write poetry. I love listening to the waves. There is just something about that soothing sound that makes me feel at peace and inspired.
I love the ocean/sea, too! It seems to calm me and make me feel at peace....so much easier to feel at one with God, when listening to and watching the waves/tide.
I like walking barefoot in the sand, wading at the water's edge, watching the seagulls, and hearing their cries.
(That reminds me of when I was in San Diego a few years ago, visiting my cousin. We ate lunch, outdoors, at one of the seafood cafes, which partially hung out over the water. After a while, the seagulls became so brazen, that they would scoop down and grab bits of bread or other food dropped on the deck or left behind at the tables. They were really interesting to watch....and at such close range!)
Very peaceful....very relaxing....wish I could be at the beach, now! :)
The ocean is a force to be respected above everything else, for its ever changing nature. It can be gentle like a mother's touch but it can also be destructive like anger unrestrained. I have two posters of asian art with both sides of the nature of the ocean represented and that is why I chose them. One is the ocean destructive during a storm and the other the ocean on a windy day with waves but on the whole peaceful. The ocean is greater than us for it can comsume us but we cannot tame it.
