Namaste!
I strive, daily, to live my life in the pursuit and promotion of peace, of spreading light where there is darkness, (and there is a LOT of darkness in our world right now). I am a pacifist, thankfully, the closest I have ever come to being in conflict was when the Tyrant, Margaret Thatcher decided it would be a good idea to have a war in the Falkland Islands. At the time, I was in the reserve forces but, thankfully, our unit was never called to go. I don’t believe now, in sending troops thousands of miles away to bolster the career of a politician, for that IS what war is for, you do all realise that I assume?
But I digress…. I believe fully and completely that it is possible to live a whole physical lifetime in peace and love. I believe that is what we should be teaching above all else, across the world. To many people, this is a ‘tree-hugging-hippy-attitude’. They assume that being peace loving and Spiritually focused means you are somewhere between a fool and a saint, they don’t see the normal, ordinary, human being in amongst that. They have difficulty in accepting that an ordinary human being could be like that, because they either cannot, or choose not, to be like that, so it is out-with their comprehension.
Like anyone else, I am human, first and foremost. I want to live my life in peace, love, light and harmony. I strive to give it and to help others see it so that it will grow. It’s like tending the garden, the more I plant and the more flowers bloom and grow, the more people will be able to enjoy it. I may have to do the initial work, but the more I do, more people will do it too and so it will grow. Ideally, it will grow across the world and we will all be able to live in peace and love and harmony in that garden, it’s juts going to take a while to get there, that’s all.
As I said though, I am human. I feel all the same human emotions you do. The good and the bad ones. I get angry, frustrated, I want to lash out, to hit something, someone even. That’s normal, we all have those times. It doesn’t mean that I am any less peace loving or Spiritual overall, only at those times. The only person I am letting down when I do this, of course, is me. I don’t beat myself up over it when I experience my humanity though. I let it happen, let it wash over me and move on.
Making a conscious decision to tread a Spiritual path of your own is hard. It is difficult and full of challenges and tests. In some ways, it may be easier to follow a religion because at least then you have a set of rules, guidelines, teachings to follow, even a book to read. Being non-religious is different. There are no rules, there are no guidelines, there are no books with the definitive truth. You learn and change and adapt and grow, as you go. You try out things to see what works, what feels right and if it doesn’t, you let it go.
Whatever I have done, wherever I have been, anyone else can go and do also. It may be a Spiritual path you wish to follow, it may be a Religious one but the same things still applies, you walk with one foot in each world and seek that balance between the two. Don’t be dismayed at your humanity then, learn from it. Don’t be afraid of your Spirituality either, learn from that too. Good luck on your path and whatever else you do, enjoy what you do!

i think that alot of us try to live like this, the only thing that stops us living in peace is other people to some extent, those people who don't care how their words and actions afect others.
this is a wonderful post, sorry i haven't visited in a while xx

All that can be done is to open the door and invite others to follow. The walking itself has to be done by them though. In that there is free will.
