 Las Vegas Arrival
Since most of my fellow bloggers have blogged about Vegas, I won't bore you (too much) with my take on things.

It was a surreal, unreal, weird, over the top, magnificent, wonderful place that, in some ways, does deserve the title of "Sin city". It was no sin, however, that Danielle and I got to meet so many really nice, good people, all in the one group too.

Like most of the group, I know we had some niggling doubts about what this trip was going to be about, what we should expect when we got there, what the other people would be like, etc, etc. Suffice to say that, the experience was far far greater than even our most optimistic hopes. We learned, as the time progressed that what the Thoughts.com staff team had prepared for us was something which we simply could not have dreamed up. I don't mean it lightly when I say that these angels gave us all a wonderful gift, and I only hope we prove worthy of passing on that good so that it can grow exponentially!

From meeting everyone on the first day as we went to dinner, it was obvious that with a few exceptions, (you know who you are! :p), this was largely a "young crowd". The age of everyone didn't really come into it though because there was a vibrant young energy amongst the group and everyone just began to chat and get along, much as we do on Thoughts.com.

I had imagined our youngest (Beneventure) to be older, which only goes to show how the wisdom of the words in his blogs has no relevance to his physical age - and also shows how stupid we are to judge and assess others on such scant information. Both he and his brother reminded me of those 'great' Scottish Pop Icons, The Proclaimers, though I never heard either of them sing.

I had also imagined Ben and his wife would have been older too, I'm not exactly sure why but thats what I get for assuming. You couldn't wish to meet a nicer, more loving, caring couple though. We also got to meet Ben's mother in law who was looking after
the baby and helping Valentina with the little surprises they had in store for us.

Roe and poor Joe were as instantly recognisable to me as I was to her and she proved to be as witty, interesting and funny in person as she is in her writing. Joe, the gentle giant, added in his viewpoint on some of Roe's stories too.

There were others there of course, and I shall mention each in my other blogs too, so that this oine isnt too long and I don't bore you all to tears. :)

That first night, the walk to our restaurant took us through some of the casinos, across a pedestrian street bridge - with escalators - and into another casino. The whole route was a dizzying confusing walk punctuated by lights, bells, the wheels of hundreds of slot machines turning and thousands of voices all talking at once.

When we hit the street bridge and had a grandstand view down the La Vegas strip at night, there was no alternative but to take a photo of this amazing sight. The amount of traffic, even late at night had to be seen to be believed too.

We had a great meal at an Italian restuarant, sitting at the outside tables which were outside the restaurant but inside the casino building. It was loud, noisy, busy, and the meal was amazing and filled us up well. It was only a pity that it was difficult to hear to talk and we didn't get to talk to everyone yet. Still, there were three more days to go....!

After dinner, we each drifted off on our own to shop, walk off dinner on the strip or try our 'luck' in the casino. Danielle and I walked down the strip a little way taking in the sights, sounds, smells, ticket touts, sleaze, free porn magazines and 'bargains' in the shops. After filling up on some souvenirs, we headed back to the hotel as tiredness crept in.

The hotel itself was amazing and after a hesitant start when we first arrived, we enjoyed three nights in room 607 on the 38th floor which had an amazing view over the lower half of the strip. To see Las Vegas at night with all the lights was an experience in itself, so out came the trusty camera again for a few more photo opportunities.

One refreshing shower later, we were fast asleep, subconsciously preparing for whatever tomorrow would bring.

The Thoughts.com staff deserve so much more credit than our words can give them Di. Their not one in a million though, they are unique - God threw away the mold when he made them.

Come away in and join the gang Roe. :)
Of course I'm not insulted. It's nice to know that we think alike - at least there will be someone who understands me then. Sort of. :)

Jim,
I didn't know you had won the trip. I read that Ben had won and I thought (I don't know why) that there was only one winner. Boy, am I glad you won also alone with Ben because the both of you with your comments caused me to keep on posting my poetry and I doubt if I would have continued if Y'all (a little southern lingo) would not have responded. The Thought's staff sure did make some wise choices and I'm sorry I did not know you had won also but from all the hits you have gotten I think I'm the only one who didn't know.
