I love flying. Absolutely love it. It's one fo the reasons why I started off as an Air cadet as a youth and eventually transferred into the Air force for military service. I would fly every day if I could. Doesn't matter where or why, just to be up there, above the clouds, looking back down to earth. You can imagine then why I find it so incredibly hard to undrestand those who have a fear of flying.
The spirit of the barnstormer, the wright brothers, even the student pilot of these modern days - they all live in me now. There is something that just feels right about being up in the sky, where only the birds, the angels and the foolhardy can usually be found. It is peaceful, calm, serene and I'd rather have my wings than my feet on the ground.
I've heard people say that if we were meant to fly God would have given us wings. But he did, you see. We have our wings to fly but they're just invisible ones. The visible ones came from the creativity of the aeronautical architect-designers who imagined the airplanes we fly in, drew them on sheets of paper, right down to the last nut and bolt, before they ever became 'real' in our physical world.
Of course, people have phobias about flying. I can understand the actual having of a phobia - I used to have one about Dentists (but as one of my fellow bloggers likes to say, That's another story! :p). Phobias though, are irrational fears that we jealousy guard and keep hidden away deep within our minds, sometimes for years. A phobia is a thought full of fear, as useless as a balloon filled with water.
Everything we see, everything we use, and most of what we take for granted - all starts off as a thought, a visualisation in someone's imagination. The creator of whatever it is, imagined it, then imagined it as being possible, 'saw' it in their minds eye, and took the steps necessary to make their dream, their imaginings, become reality.
If you can accept that is how everything here comes into being, then you can surely see how the greatest creator of all did exactly the same thing. "He" saw it all, how the earth should be, how all the inhabitants of this planet should be. He saw everything, right down to the tiniest little life-form, before he created it and turned it into physical reality.
Since he knows everything and sees all, he knew that, one day, we would fly and soar above the clouds like the eagle. He knew we would surpass that and push further, into space, where some lucky souls have seen the whole world in its entirety. He knew!
Flying does not bring me 'closer to God', it just feels like it sometimes. Up there, there is peace, quiet, calm, clear blue skies, wonderfully full bright moons, white fluffy clouds, an occasional bird passing on its way to who knows where, even a dream or two that has taken flight to bring fulfillment back to the dreamer.
The world maybe smaller and commercial flight may have to be looked at again in terms of its damaging environmental impact, but even if it be a half hour in a glider, the love of flying is a gift I, and others like me, will never give up freely - Not until we get our own individual "wings". :)

You fly for real?
I thought you only had your spiritual wings.
Now I think you are even more interesting.
I have never been in a small plane...is it much different than those big commercial flights?
It must be, when you have control.
That is just a neat thing.
Soar High ....my friend.

These days I only have my Spiritual wings DS and Im not sure how much control I have over them. lol
I did fly, in control, though and miss it sometimes. Flying as a passenger in a commercial plane just isnt the same.
In my heart, I have never come down to earth though. :) lol

TY Feiz. We could do a 'flying trip' instead of a road trip together. lol
Yes Wayne is a good man with a great sense of humour too. I also use the Flight Simulator, as he does.
