 Time, Talents and Treasures

The cure to being bored ,tired, or feeling like you are in a rut is to volunteer to make someone else's life better. Tomorrow my two son's and I will be joining thousands of other Methodist in "The Wesley Walk for Others". We have collected pledges to pay small amounts in order to help the ederly and at-risk children if we walk around a local park (7-8 miles). Other volunteers will have stations with water, soda and snacks for us walkers. We also get a free tee shirt.!

The point here is that it is fun and it benefits someone in our community locally. There will be several hundred walkers and others who will have a good time, fellowship and just enjoy our day outdoors. Everyone wins in this situation! It's like having a holiday that you look forward to and make plans with others.

This is also a good pratical idea to live your faith and allow your light to shine.

I really think if you are looking for some fun and want to help others and meet new good people then get out and volunteer to help others so they can live a higher quality of life. The feeling that comes with reaching out to others in need is like no other feeling. The best place to start is your church, search for volunteer opportunities or just go to volunteermatch.org for hundreds of offers from non-profit organizations that need help from people that want to donate their time, talants and treasures (small donations).

It's good to hear from you and grand to know someone from the UK who professes a belief in Jesus. They would have us believe in the USA that there are no Christians over there. Thanks for the encouragement and may God bless your day!

Kirby,

Great post! I believe that people who spend more time working to better the condition of others, instead of focusing so much time on their own situation, are much happier people. I'd rather help someone that is sick than worry about my own aches and pains. I'd rather help a widow care for her yard and home than put an addition on my own home. I'd rather give to a well project in Africa than buy a big screen TV. *I* thiank the world would be a much better place if we all gave like Jesus and spent less time and money on ourselves.
