| the future: spec fiction. |
My prediction, you saw it here first. Bad horror is dying, sparkling vampires are having stakes fitted as we speak. i started saying this two years ago: SPEC FICTION IS THE NEW BLACK in writing. Case in point, new movie called THE BOX. based on an old twilight zone episode. stephen kings new book, UNDER THE DOME, no way that's horror. leonardo dicaprio has supposedly acquired rights to TWILIGHT ZONE.
So what is it, this thing i name spec fiction. it is SPECULATIVE FICTION. it is mostly based on the "what if...?" question that we casually think to ourselves as we brush our teeth, or wait for the bus or look at a weird looking zookeeper. like:
what if i fell asleep on the train and ended up ....?
what if i found a magic ... and i let me do ...?
what if aliens landed and nobody noticed?
spec fiction can be horror, sci fi, love story, action thriller, nonsense, ou name it. spec fiction knows no boundaries because there are no boundaries to the human imagination. as we move thru the last of the sparkly vampies, the dead guy who sets traps everywhere, the remakes and "re-imaginings", when original, thought-provoking fiction, commonsense and a renewed sense of adventure will return to both fiction and movies
and it's about time.
My new book will be called a touch of evil. look for it around march 2010. it's spec fiction.
