The only reasons I can think of are that some women:
1) Feel distinctly artistic and wish to create a kind of 'pubic tattoo' which they feel expresses themselves without being at all permanent or tattoo-like. Erm....
2) May feel that the excitement has gone from their lives and wish to put...

I wouldn't get any kind of pattern 'done' for reasons of 1) excruciating pain, and 2) crossing some kind of tackiness barrier, but straight waxing is...well...ok, doesn't hurt very much, and is much more comfortable!
