I was a newlywed
when we first moved to our neighborhood
everyone else had been married a lot longer
so
while having cocktails at our very first block party
I couldn't help but notice
that all the guys were in one room
and all the girls were in another
(AK, this was at your house!)
I was really surprised by this distinct split
between the sexes
I wanted to hang with the man I married
not a bunch of women I didn't know
besides
I assumed
incorrectly I admit
that the male conversations were so much more interesting than the females
the chicks were talking about decorating,
kids and the price of ground beef
boring!
I told myself that I was never going to be like that
ever
I really wanted to hang with my husband
I enjoyed his company
and
I loved the conversation among the fellows
I thought
it was very entertaining
In addition
I really
hated those parties where the hostess separated couples from each other during the meal
I was never comfortable with that turn of events
I only wanted to be with my man!
I dreaded being stuck next to someone I did not know
making small talk
I wanted to spend all my spare time with my sweetie
Fast forward a few short years later
now,
whenever poor Joe and I are invited somewhere together,
the minute the hostess opens the door
I look for the gals
and he gravitates towards the boys
I head east and he heads west
and
it's not all that unusual
if we don't meet up again
unless we pass each other in the buffet line
although I must admit
most of the time we do eat together
but thats another story
The conversation among the women is much more lively
all we do is laugh
its a time
we are all able to talk freely
let our hair down
so to speak
without male ears hovering
we are much more fun than the men
oh
they certainly do a lot of talking
yet they manage
to fill up the evening
without saying much of anything
and it seems to me
that they repeat the same things
over and over again to each other
everytime they get together
I digress
now,
there are always exceptions to this rule
some men
though not many
and
my other half is included
occasionally
(you know how much I love you honey)
I am pretty sure I am not going to hurt his feelings
he never reads these
another story
are indeed fun to hang out with at a party
and when that occurs
I want to be at their table
but that's another story too
I have even been known to occasionally hide
from poor Joe if I think he wants to head home
before I'm ready to call it a night
Generally though
my hubby and I
barely spend any time together
when we are out and about
until we say our thank yous and good bye
I used to think
when I was young and foolish
that this state of affairs
no pun intended
was pretty sad
but now
I think its the natural order of things
remember lunch tables in grade school?
would you be caught dead sitting at the guys table?
or vice versa?
life is cyclical
Listen to the sound track of the Lion King
if you don't get it?

I'm still at the stage where we both want to sit together at meals and hang out together at parties lol i'm sure as the years go by i will see social occasions as a chance to enjoy others company instead, they all sound enjoyable :)

The couples I envy the most are actually those that do not need to be attached at the hip 24/7. Although not attached at the moment, I look forward to going to parties with my sweetie but spending time with my girlfriends chatting about fun, female things and then going home with my man at the end of the night. Great post.

Great post!
I like talking to the men if they are talking about NFL football. I just love it! I miss it terribly when it is over for awhile.
If you saw me, you'd never think that I love football. But I really, really do!!!!!
