Super bowl, commercial contest w/a prize
My flight was delayed yesterday but I didn't mind, I was having a wonderful conversation with a total stranger, which is always a favorite past time of mine. (Another story) Since the gentleman was someone I figured I would never see again, I felt totally comfortable asking him what some might think was a very stupid question. I leaned over and whispered, "Don't tell anyone I don't know the answer, but, would you mind telling me who is playing in the Superbowl tomorrow?" He looked at me like I had 2 heads then kindly said, "The colts" "Oh" I replied, "I noticed a number of people walking around the airport wearing Colt sweatshirts, that must be the reason...dah!" Since he smiled and didn't change seats I then inquired a bit further, "Who would the colts be up against in the big game?" I really could care less, and I knew the information would fall out of my head even before we boarded, which it did. Although, I think he said, New Orleans? I'm not sure, so don't quote me.
So how does this ...as some would say vital information escape me during all the pre Superbowl hype? Easy, I never pay any attention whatsoever to the game, with the exception of that particularly fabulous year when the Chicago Bears participated against some team? in the 1985-86 championship.
The very one that made the Super bowl Shuffle famous.
I knew every word to that song and was completely current and well informed about each and every player. It's the only way I am able to watch the Olympics or any kind of sports on TV. If I know something personal about the participants, then I am able to endure the event....Remind me to tell you about some of my favorite up close and personals!
The following clip is
also about the
Chicago Bears
and Mike's "dream team"
watch it, I promise you will enjoy this video,
especially if you are from
Chicago!
Ive watched it a few times already!
I was engaged to my husband Joe at the time and I know my knowledge of the Bears really impressed him. A neighbor of his threw a big Superbowl bash and I must say I was so very proud of myself. I knew everything about every single player and was totally immersed in the game. It was as if I had taken a crash Superbowl preparation course. Perhaps, I might have mislead my husband just a bit, since I have never been that well versed ever again about a sporting event. Sorry, I digress.
That was the same year the power ran out in the entire enighborhood, right in the middle of the game! It was quite a sight to see so many irate fans out on their front porches mad as hell over the debacle. We were lucky that the home we chose to view the big game had a back up generator therefore, we never missed a single play. We even bet money on the teams...you know how people fill out a giant poster filled with all sorts of squares and numbers. Well, surprise surprise, I won the entire pot! Another story.
Which reminds me
of my first year teaching first grade.
One of the faculty members organized a Superbowl pool. (Now I love those suckers, it makes the entire thing so much more interesting for me, but this particular year, I never even watched the game and had no idea who won.
When the gym teacher showed up at my classroom door Monday morning, I ran for my purse, apologizing that I had forgotten to give him the money Friday after school As I was about to hand over the cash, he instead presented me with an overflowing envelope. Seems I had won all the money and was the only one who had not paid. My buddy threw in my share and figured he would collect it from me on Monday. I certainly didn't deserve the windfall, but he insisted I take it, after he collected what I owed him. When Bob left my room, he was rolling his eyes and talking to himself. You know, I seemed to always have that same effect on him, no matter what the occasion (another story...oh and its a doozy)
and like I mentioned earlier...
when the Chicago Bears were involved, it was the first and last time I bothered to pay any attention to the game itself, However, I am a big fan of the commercials!
Actually, the Superbowl itself has quite a special place in my heart. I brought my son home from the hospital on a Superbowl Sunday. The year was 1988 even though he is 22 today, I remember it as if it was yesterday, Not the game, but the fact that he shot me right between the eyes the very first time I changed his diaper.
I wonder if my son and his room mates are organizing some sort of party today that will involve lots of numbers and squares and large quantities of red plastic cups. Another story?
This year is like all the others for me, the only thing I care about are the station breaks. I found this next one on you tube and I thought I would hold my own Superbowl contest, no prizes of course, unless you want me to mail you something left over from Buddy the thoughts.com globe trotting blogging bear's trip to Chicago? I think I might be able to come up with something...anyway
I would like to organize a poll or a survey or whatever we are currently doing on thoughts these days, to determine which commercials we all like the best.
So, how about it, let's vote!
All I know is Pepsi and the Ford Motor Company are not participating anymore but Budweiser and the big horses are still in the game. I read that in a gallop poll.
I found these 2 you tube videos about last years commercials to give you an idea of what I would like to do. I would love to blatantly copy that guy (the dad with the cute kid) and do a video blog about all the commercials after I receive your feedback. I should probably check the time of the game, I have no idea when it airs today. Yet, when its over, I would like you to come back here and tell me which commercial you enjoyed the most and if you feel the urge to tell us why, your comments are more than welcome.
Then I will compile a survey or a poll or something with all the results! The final tally hoe so to speak! How does that sound? "Fun!" you say, well... great, then it's a plan.
Now don't forget, go to the potty and get your snacks during the game so you do not miss a second of the commercials, and as an added bonus, we will discuss the half time entertainment.
You never know if we will have any cool mishaps or malfunctions this year, it's always such an exciting time! Don't know about the rest of you, but it has me on the edge of my seat in eager anticipation.
a man and his little boy narrate the one below
Here is a more professional looking one:
Now please, do not forget to come back and give me your valued opinions, I will be waiting to hear from you!
Oh, I just thought of another Superbowl story. We have time, don't we, I don't think the game is on till later???
The very first time I had an article published in the Chicago Tribune, even though I sold the story in October, it appeared on the front page of the features section with my pic (another story...couldnt decide if I should have bangs or not) anyway, of all days, my article called "Honk if you are in the neighborhood" was published on Superbowl Sunday during a blizzard no less! I was so upset. I figured no one would see it, let alone read it because everyone would be preparing for Superbowl parties and watching the game, I was positive no one would be opening the paper that day and since it happened to be buried by a foot or two of snow, the weather really put a damper on my big day ...even though my son and I actually shoveled eveyones driveway in order to hand deliver the large Sunday edition right to my neighbors doors, and yes... you guessed it, that's another story
See ya later I hope. Remember where I live, I will be here looking for your valued opinions! I'm going to go look in the attic for a prize? That's what I will be doing between commercials.
