scribble challenge #33 ...my dream of today
Write a story using as many of these words as  possible

My Dream of Today

1/Cleave  2/Emulate  3/Susseration 4/Song 5/Contemplate 6/Gloam 7/Children 8/Elbow 9/Dream 10/Still/ 11/Bloom 12/celestial 13/Free 14/Grace 15/Speak 16/Cast 17/Dismiss 18/Matchless 19/Reflect 20/Ersatz

As I cleave to the gloam of my existence, I seem to be caught somewhere in an out of body celestial holding place. I try to call out only to realize I can’t speak and when I attempt to get away, I discover I’m frozen solid in a block of ice. Nothing made sense, yet everything seemed perfectly natural as I began to wonder if this was the real thing or an ersatz substitute of the after life.   Before having the opportunity to observe the details of my mysterious surroundings, I am abruptly set free to leisurely stroll through a luscious garden filled with exquisite flowers in full bloom to contimplate and reflect upon my life. Somewhere in the distance beyond a cloud the susseration of heavenly sounds draw me closer to its source like a magnet.  As I follow the sweet yet faint melody, a choir of children dressed in angel costumes appeared out of nowhere.  One of the kids look vaguely familiar, although I quickly focused on the words, which drew me to them like a magnet and lulled me into a state of total bliss. Their voices were magnificent! The music washed over me like a warm comforting blanket.  I have never felt more at peace.  The song, a long ago favorite, and one I haven’t heard since I was a young girl provided the matchless soundtrack to the movie of my life.   By the grace of God I was magically allowed a closer look into my years on earth.   An array of emotions began to overwhelm me, as one event after another appeared before me in a continuous flow.     Without warning, I was then cast further away as if I had been swiftly dismissed.  Even at a distance, I was able to delight in those heavenly voices.  The song enveloped me and its meaning propelled me effortlessly through time.  Out of the blue, I felt an elbow poking me and heard my husband begging me to roll over!  Apparently my snoring was keeping him awake.  Before I had a chance to react, our clock radio began to serenade us with that very same tune that felt so comforting throughout my dream.  Even though the voices that filled my bedroom seemed to make an attempt to emulate the very special harmonious sounds I had experienced, I knew it would be impossible to duplicate.  As my mate automatically hopped in the shower, I remained very still and slowly breathed in the words once again, only this time, the angels were nowhere in sight. The
The New Christy Minstrels had taken their place.  However, I can not get those special words out of my head...today!

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

Ill be a dandy, and Ill be a rover
Youll know who I am by the songs that I sing
Ill feast at your table, Ill sleep
in your clover
Who cares what the morrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I cant be contented with yesterdays glory
I cant live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
Ill laugh and Ill cry and Ill sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

A lovely dream scenario,Roe. The kind that comes just before you awake, and don't want to leave just yet.Great job on the challenge!

P.S....and don't be knocking my Kingston Trio! LOL

Very atmospheric. I appreciated the shifting moods. Well crafted.

I concur--well done. I'm intrigued by the angel you thought you might recognize, the one that you don't mention again. Could it be personal history I don't know of? Hope to see again someone no longer with you?

I especially like "the gloam of my existence" I always like it when someone uses a word correctly, but still in a way no one would expect.

It was nice to meet you. Song was great too. I've heard of the Kingston Trio, but never listened. And I think I vaguely remember my dad singing this one once.

This is very exciting for me, a real opportunity to learn and grow. I have never taken a writing class, although its been on my list of things "to do"

First, the angel...I am glad you noticed it...I suppose its my version of
"and thats another story" a tag line I frequently use in my goofy stuff!

The angel is me...as a little girl in a school play dressed in costume. I wondered If I should have put it in there, knowing I would not tell the other story in this story...Would a teacher say, why mention it, if you did not intend to do anything with the character?

And thank you for mentioning using a word properly, since I had never heard of that word, I'm always reluctant to use a new one until after I have heard it used correctly quite a few times before I grab hold and toss it into my writing salad so to speak
Its one of my writing fears
to use a cool word, only to make a fool of myself
by not using it properly...sort of like someone bragging but the jokes is on them or being proud of yourself for using a new big word, yet everyone is laughing...get my drift?

and
I have trouble with tenses, I went back and forth changing it again and again...If I was telling the dream to you today, in describing it, I would say, and now...Im frozen solid, but it happened in a dream, so should I say, I was frozen solid, and are you allowed to switch in mid stream like I did?
I dont think you should, I believe you are supposed to stay in the same tense??? the whole thing makes me rather tense?

If anyone cares to put their two tense into this, and help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Its always Nice to me some great new people

hi cabin fever, you and I go way back, thanks for reading this!

I didn't notice anything hinky with the tenses. I think you did just fine.

Hi toots!!
A very nice story for sure...and a dream as well. I'm always interested in someone's dream because mine are so bizarre! (no, not mine!)
I remember this song...I think my grandparents introduced me to the...what are they, new christy mintrels or something? Anyhoo, nice story, song, nice touch!
:)

thanks toots, you were right, this song was sung by an Old Group called
The New Christy Minstrels, maybe they need a name change, ya think?

The finished product is one you can be truly proud of. Describing anything relating to a dream, whether waking or sleeping, is difficult without sounding trite, but you have done so extremely well. Thank you for that!

wow, thank you for your comment and I hope you find your coffee, where did you last see it?

The dream by the way was fiction, I never had that dream before...my dreams dont have the words

1/Cleave 2/Emulate 3/Susseration 4/Song 5/Contemplate 6/Gloam 7/Children 8/Elbow 9/Dream 10/Still/ 11/Bloom 12/celestial 13/Free 14/Grace 15/Speak 16/Cast 17/Dismiss 18/Matchless 19/Reflect 20/Ersatz

in them!
I guess I dream on a first grade level?

WOW! I loved the sudden mood change, I went from very relaxed reading the words of your 'dream' and then suddenly 'awoke'. so to speak. I felt as if I were there. Nice work Roe=)

I couldnt wait for you to get here...thanks
I like the john denver version better but I needed more people, like the choir for the song?
