 picture windows and swing sets
while I was taking the pups for a walk today
I came across a house that looked very similar to the one
I lived in while growing up,
only this particular residence had a picture window.
Back in the day
Only the expensive homes
had big picture windows
complete with window seats
Oh how I longed for a window seat with my picture window
I knew it would be the perfect place to read and write
its funny what we wished for when we were young
but I never said a word to anyone
I also wanted a swing set
although I never mentioned that desire to my parents either
 however
one day
I told the kids on the block
we were getting one
I have never ever
made something like that up out of the clear blue sky
before or after that summer day
I don't know what possessed me
yet
I'll never forget how my friends and I waited all day long for it to be delivered
I was just as disappointed as they all were
I actually believed my own fib
maybe I thought if you wished for something hard enough it would come true
Today if kids hope for things in their homes
its usually on a much grander scale
I heard one of mine say a few years ago
I wish we had a movie theater
that's another story

We lived in what was called a 'tenement' in Scotland when I was a kid. It had a picture window right on the corner of the building. It was also haunted but - thats another story :p

Movie theater? I can remember watching some movie reels on the old 16mm reel projector with my family too. The wall was our 'screen'. Changed days huh?

Good post Roe. Took me a walk down memory lane. :)

hi roe!
i guess i'm pretty happy with my 1000W surround system in my place (it pisses off the neighbours something fierce!) - but for most of my childhood the TV was B/W - and many of the old shows i still picture in my mind as black and white.
strange, eh?
:o)
cheers!
