 hat hair, the dreaded condition
Hat hair
The dreaded condition

Here is the predicament ladies and gentlemen
Before one positions anything on top of one’s head
You had better be absolutely sure
Without a question of a doubt
That this idea is not just some crazy whim
Or last second decision

Once you wear a hat
You can never go back

It’s a commitment of major proportions
Not to be taken lightly

Unless
You are prepared
to redo
Your hair do

We wear hats and caps for various reasons

Take baseball cap for example
Most of them are chosen
Strictly
Because of dirty or unruly hair
we are not fooling anyone here

Or in some cases

Wet hair is responsible for the idea

another popular choice
might be
a way of providing protective shade for your face

although
Lets be truthful
the majority of the time
when a cap is chosen
it has absolutely nothing to do to with being a fan
of a particular team
or a supporter of some worthwhile cause
or
even
possessing a fear of skin cancer or future wrinkles

Lets face it
You are simply having a bad hair day

Now
We women
encounter an entirely different scenario
When we decide
Of our own free will
To add a hat to our ensemble
To make some sort of fashion statement

warning

Be carefeul ladies
If you are gutsy enough to make this move

And risk
Snide comments

You have to be willing
to keep
the lid on
So to speak
For the entire time you are out and about

And for those aliens living on another planet
You may wonder
why
this is the case

The answer
of course
is
simply

hat hair

Whenever you watch a movies
or
tv show
and
notice a women wearing a hat in one scene
then taking it off shortly there after

You must know
a hair dresser on set
was
Summoned to do a quick touch up before moving on

Marlo Thomas
used to have this cute little montage
at the opening of her popular tv show
Years ago

Of her walking about town in various outfits

Toward the end of the clip
They show her wearing a hat

dum de dum dum!

the second she takes that wide brimmed hat off her head
She messes up her hair!
before we have a chance to notice the damage
she instantly
places her arms and hands right on the top of her head

And she strikes that pose

Just so you wouldn’t notice
how messed up her gorgous brunette locks were
as soon as that matching hat was removed

and

Remember when Mary Tyler Moore famously
tossed her hat into the air

In her opening sequence

She was probably sick and tired
of wearing it
And then
Forced to have her hair redone
for each and every take

Well ladies and gentlemen
That’s my take
on the matter

And I’m sticking to it
Just like I would do
if I decided to wear a hat today!

head bands
And bathing caps
are
as you all know by now

I'm not a hat-girl at all, for the very reasons you've so colourfully described. Between you and I, though, I'm a hat-whacker. If someone (male mostly) sits down at my table wearing a hat, I will la-la-la around the room, sneak up behind him and whack it, in some cases, right across the room! If he didn't take the time to remove his hat and fix his hair before he came to dinner, then he gets to sit there for the entire meal with silly hair! A fitting punishment for oafish behaviour, doncha think? :)

Definitely a gentleman if he didn't remove his hat when he came in or tip it when 1st speaking to a lady!

boot lady
you are not a women to mess with
I would never want to be a guy that might have pissed you off!

dont you hate it when someone with a giant hat sits directly in front of you?
have you ever wacked one of those?
I bet you are able to send one quite a distance!

Hi tony
I know you are always a gentleman!

boy, I havent seen anyone tip a hat in ages,
probably
since men wore fedoras
my dad had a bunch of those

and my brother used to borrow one when he wanted to buy beer before he was 21,
he'd dress up in my dads trench coat and hat, thought it made him look older...
he probably looked like the incredible shrinking man, I digress

but instead of tipping his hat, he wore one to get tipsy!

Hats? I remember ladies wore hats to church, and for special occasions, silly huh?Grandma wore a hat and a mink to go out to dinner. I remember the fox stole too, I thought it would bite me.

I meant definitely not a gentleman but you got the drift. I don't worry about hat hair, only helmet head when i get outta the shower right before going out on my bike! Of course I've got little enough hair that it doesn't make much difference. (Always say my brain's so active it robs the blood flow to my hair follicles!)

I too never wear hats.
I do love to watch old black and white movies. The way they talk alone entertains me. The seemingly over acting, the clothing, the trivial "ah gee dad" days are so foreign to me yet so captivating.

Your talk of hat wearing brought all this to mind. The days of even Little House on the Prairie with Mrs. Oleson making a grandstanding at owning so many expensive dresses and hats. Also Mrs. Ingall's excitement and hesitation "But Charles it's so frivolous!" meekness embedded in another era.

Nowadays, it seems hatboxes are for photos and keepsakes storage instead of hat safekeeping. Seems only a small bit of the population wear hats. As you stated, to cover hair instead of to accent an outfit. Yes, the hair underneith the hat should be spared from the rest of us, I see your point.

I have a hard time finding hats that fit ... they are always slightly to big for me. Your post brought to mind "That Girl". I always loved Marlo Thomas' hair, unfortunately I could never get my brunette hair to look like hers:( Great post. Peace.
