someone told me once
that one of the reasons dogs stick with people
who clearly do not have affection for them
is because they know
that if you pet them
you will be better off
I was one of those people
who made a silent pact with everyone's pet
"stay away from me"
"I will not pay any attention to you"
"waste of time buddy"
"because if I do,
you will never leave me alone
and I will never get rid of you"
I was a believer in
give them an inch
they'll take a yard
my yard
theory
lets get this perfectly clear buster
I am not even going to pet you
or
tell you how cute I think you are
and that's final
OK,
SO I WAS WRONG
I ADMIT IT
My little doggies have taught me so much already
which is another story
but one of the by products of owning these 2 sweetie pies
is not only
an enormous amount of extra work
but
I have actually reconnected with people on my block
and I have the dogs to thank for that
when my kids were little I was outside with them all the time,
my neighbors were my constant companions
but as the kids got older
I spent all my free time driving them places
another story
but when I do make it home, I never made it past my own backyard
even when I jogged everyday
I would drive to a different location
park and run from there
I get bored with the same old scenery
and
as a result
I never ever saw my neighbors
the ones I used to see daily
for years!
Now that I am walking these puppies, I am rediscovering some great old friends.
I never realized how many of my neighbors actually had dogs.
I just never thought about it...
oh now
our dogs are actually having play dates with each other
while we chat and get reacquainted
its fantastic
and that too
is another story
I'm going to have a dog day afternoon
