I love houses too, you describe yours like they were old friends...I lived in the same house growing up for 19 years. The other day I drove around the old neighborhood and ended up going down the ally, I have ally memories..another story...but unlike you, I never liked that house, at all, but I love some of my old memories of my block. I dont think Im making any sense, Im kind of tired tonight...should go to bed, but I had to comment on this post...I dont like the house we live in right now, we have been here 22 years, my husband built it, was the general contractor...I was proud of him that he was able to do it, he had never built one before, but he did not consult me on anything...I was too busy working to care all that much, long story, but after we moved in... Ive spent 22 years trying to change it...another story...but, like the old house I loved in as a kid, I love our block!

Ok, now you have me thinking in photo puns, sorry in advance... will this relationship continue or be a "photo" finish is it the "reel" thing? or a "flash" in the pan will you two continue to "click" how are we going to "frame" this? Can you "picture" the two of you together in the future? "Cheese" I really have no idea what might happen? You have "captured an image", and we are all hooked on the continuing saga of the life and good and bad times of Merideth... season 1 I hope we dont encounter a writers strike! I can not wait to hear about your next date. Smile!

Honey bun, calm down, we all feel this way, you are not the only one..its ok. you can reinvent yourself any time you want. I attended the college my parents chose for me, I never rebelled, I was a goodie two shoes, I became a teacher because my dad thought it was a "perfect job" for a "girl" He said I would have my summers off and have the same hours and vacations as my kids...well, at age 27, I did not have kids or a husband, I had a little tiny studio apartment and was living pay check to pay check...but I looked around, suffered with the "now what do I do????" question... and the next few years were an adventure...I did not have anything to tie me down, so I quit teaching (gave up a good steady job and my parents thought I was insane) and tried a number of things, read some of my blogs......what a journey! Be invigorated by the changes you are going to make, and don't be scared,to try something new or to make a mistake, find some friends that you can lean on...and you hit the nail on the head, it all comes down to self talk...start talking nice to yourself...your self esteem needs a real boost, lets figure out how we can make that happen???? hum????...I will stick with you kid, and help you figure this out...fyi, I did not get married until I was 34, almost 35, and now I have one kid who is married 1 in college and 2 in high school and I would love to be in your position, your future holds so many exciting endless possibilities.

I absolutley love this...its brilliant. and I hope in dnanetwork world, punk has a different connotation and is a complimentary word. If not, thats just one persons opinion. I read one of your comments where you thought you did not have a chance to win the writing contest...I think you need a little dose of self confidence...I like what you have to say and how you say it. Good luck! You have talent.

Posted in through the looking glass, darkly on 2008-04-28 14:52:57
I like this post, "Your opinions of me can only be formulated on what I tell you. It is the same for all of us, true?" That is so true. Some of us came into this blogging thing not having a clue what it was all about. You can count me in that catagory. Thats why I used my real name and at first, my real picture. People I knew were commenting and even teachers at my kids schools were reading my blog. I wanted them to know my identity, because I thought that I might get "discovered", and I had to give my real name so the person who wanted to pay me to write would be able to find me. Funny, when I thought about getting discovered, I meant as a writer, not as a person....and sometimes when we write without a filter we end up finding ourselves. If you are totally annonoymous, you can say anything you want without fear of being judged. If you go out there without a disguise or a costume, you have to be careful what you reveal. I think I will blog about this! Thanks for the idea!

Posted in instead of writing, I spent my time reading on 2008-04-28 14:36:30
wouldnt that be fun, I have often thought that is the way to do it. In books or movies the main character, the author always goes to a beach house or some wonderful peaceful location and all they do it write, what a luxury!

OOPHS Sorry, Easy thanks for the comments! I love hearing from everyone almost as much as I love that house! the movie is called SOMETHINGS GOT TO GIVE I BELIEVE IT WAS RELEASED IN 2002. Dianes character just pours her entire life into her typewriter and violia, a successsful play appears... if only we, on thoughts, could do that.. there is enough drama here to provide a never ending source for broadway! as far as my novel, I have no less than 10 or 20 started not a single one completed I did finished a few childrens books all inspired by my kids! I ONLY ATTEMPTED TO GET ONE or two PUBLISHED WE'LL SEE, NOT NOW, MAYBE LATER was one. Katie had asked me if we'll see is alot like maybe? oh yeah, and another... IS TODAY TOMORROW? She was looking forward to something and she kept asking me when it was going to happen and I said tomorrow when she woke up the next day the first thing she said was "Is today, tomorrow?!" They were rejected by all the major companies, so I put all my copies, I made way too many of them, in a drawer or a bin somewhere and just kept on writing! For me, its much more fun to write than it is to try to sell something Ive written, although I certainly would not be opposed to getting paid for indulging in my passion! I just have not quite figured out how to make that happen! but, thats, another story!

eye contact, I love it, it is so telling! actually, one of the muscles in my eye died and when I look up, only one eye moves. Its rather creepy. When I was in college and we were all at a bar, my friends would say, "Do your eye!" Then Id find someone to engage in a gaze and right in the middle of it, I would "do my eye" Guys really freaked, it was so fun. I could take notes and watch the teacher at the same time! keep doing those sit ups!

"the look you entertained" Paul, I love your way with words. "the feelings in me which your look entertained" Wow, I love that sentence too...I reminds me of the reason why dogs come up to people and seemingly want you to pet them...they are only doing it for you...because YOU feel good when YOU pet them! I wonder if that girl knew what she did for you during that "awkward and strained conversation" ????????????????????????????????????

I hope all my daughters find themselves a nice guy! Thank goodness, my oldest daughter married a keeper. One down and 2 to go! and another thing if you can find... funny, that's fabulous! icing on the cake!

He saw it on an informercial. I was so excited...and do you know what it was? actually I do not know what it is called, but the slogan that accompanies it is "Set it and forget it" I think its some kind of a roaster...and even though you can set it and forget it while it is cooking, it takes at least 2 hours to clean that sucker...thats the part I want to forget...and poor Joe should know better...that is not a gift that keeps on giving...its a gift you want to forget or hide?

I totally agree and have benefited from your very wise and and kind words. You are a true story teller. I feel as if ...at times, I am sitting at your knee while you reminisce. My maiden name is Durkin and me mothers name was Murphy and I'm 100% irish. Me grandmother Durkin, God rest her soul...also worked for a wealthy family in Ireland before she arrived in Chicago. She too, lived on a farm. She had 10 brothers and sisters, and only one stayed on the farm to help, and one moved to Dublin, and the rest came over on the boat and they all lived with me grandmother, Lord Save us, when they arrived and until they got settled. Every one of them played a musical instrument and they would spend their weekends in me grandmothers kitchen singing and dancing. (did you like how I wrote me.. grandmother...I was trying to copy her brogue.) Oh Lord SAve us, she always used to say! I think you have inspired a another blab!

OK, I meant Holy smoke ...a joke get it the smoke is not holy....its not...not time to kick butt...it is time to kick butt... I must be smokin something..(seriously...I do not smoke) But sometimes when I write a story, and it is really going well, Im smokin....anyway....I did not mean its not time to quit smoking...Im starting to get in the habbit....of making mistakes or unclear comments on my comments, it must be an addiction....although I truly hate not being able to edit....Just in the Nicatine of time to consider your health before you end up in a giant ash tray ....on the shelf in your family room.

Holy Smoke... its not, time to kick butt... just ash... God for help everytime you want to get on a horse and pretend to be the marboro... man. I will check tobacco morning to see how you are doing! Good luck, be the leader of the pack ...instead of buying one!

I just wrote a few comments on a few posts...Im writing while the Oprah show is on...they are discussing the book, A NEW EARTH, you should try to watch it today or go to her site and download it. It will help you, not to discount any of the feelings you have, but if you look at the world or your situation in a new light, it might help you and your kids. Try it, you have nothing to lose. good luck

It really is cool. Its like someone giving you all the paper you would ever want and the largest pack of crayons they make and then you just sit back and do your thing. Have fun coloring!

Posted in Chin up ... it's not so bad ... on 2008-04-09 10:35:41
Im watching Oprah and if its on where you live you should watch it today or go on her web site and download it. Really, make an effort today to do that....she is talking about that book, A NEW EARTH, more than one person on the show talked about living in the moment and about how time is wasted thinking about a person that makes you crazy...they all say it is much better than I can..Jenny McCarthy said....as soon as my thoughts move around past the present, I can not find peace, and everyone is always talking about peace...the only way she says she can obtain that, is to stay right in the moment and not move a minute past it. Good luck!

Get a grip girl...I just stopped by to check on you and cant beleive how low you have gotten. Now you need a plan...you should probably start with a prayer, and if you cant say one, I will do it for you! Then you need to know that you ARE LOVED! and people DO CARE! the world would not be better without you, because you are here to contribute something to it. Oprah has a new class that she is constantly talking about...get a hold of the book, A NEW EARTH...so many people said it changed their life. Maybe it will help you! Its at the library! Go watch some funny movies, (you can also rent those at the library) you need to laugh...a lady named Loretta LaRoche really makes me laugh, I found her at the library when I was looking for something funny....we all have times in our lives when we are down, but you have to remember its only temporary.....go find some joy today! Do something for someone else and take the focus off of yourself and you will feel so much better...President Kennedy once said, ASK NOT... WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, ASK, WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY...take his advice, ask not, what people can do for you, ask what you could do for them...whenever you do anything....ANYTHING at all, as small as smile at a stranger....you will feel better.... good luck and keep me posted...think of this as an assignment! Do not put it off. Get up, say a prayer and head to the library..ask the lady there to give you all the books and tapes and videos she has on joy and laughter...Thats exactly what I said to a librarian and guess what...it made her laugh and that made me feel better right away, before I even had a single book.

I love the vivid pictures you paint with words. You really captured New York and the general apathy all around us. I agree with you about the over use of cell phones. Everywhere you look, people are on their phones. I remember before cell phones became popular here someone told me that all the people in some country(cant recall which one) were on their own phones walking and talking up and down the streets. I was hard to visualize, and now its the norm. Its starting to really annoy me. If they are not talking on their phones, they are texting and listening to their I pods, everyone is plugged into somewhere else...no one is present anymore. Its so sad. I wish for a simple life! I would love to have your view of the water...you sound like you feel at peace, the best place to feel peaceful is in your own home. Im starting to ramble, so I will stop for now. I love your writing, please give us more!

faith, your name says it all...have faith that things will someday be better for you, you can still talk to your dad in your prayers. As far as your mother goes, she loves you, you can be sure of that! How could a mother not love her child, no matter what!

Posted in Look Out, I'm Coming Out on 2008-04-08 23:08:30
I watched the biggest loser tonight and a girl who lost 99 pounds saw a picture of herself before the weight loss and her trainer was standing there with her and said "Look at you, you were loveable then too" or something like that...its true, its whats inside that counts. Most people who are overweight are hiding from something and doing emotional eating. Love yourself unconditionally!

My brother was molested by a relative and that rat died too. But...I truly believe (also a catholic) that he is in hell right now, and he is paying for what he did! So when we think they have gotten away with something horrible, they didnt! He is going to suffer for eternity! I feel so bad for you, but maybe your story will help someone else.

Posted in My Mind Closet is Full on 2008-04-08 22:54:34
I think you should throw it in the fireplace and not store it anymore, start cleaning out your closet and giving things away, so to speak. If you have dealt with them, you can toss them, dont save them, get rid of it. You have your whole life ahead of you!

You sound pretty tired. You should probaby get some rest...sounds like you are sick and tired. You poor baby. You need some there theres! Have you ever tried swimming? Its really quiet when you are under water or how about going for a walk alone, or sitting under a tree?

Posted in Wishing I were feeling better on 2008-04-08 22:40:36
Stress can cause so much physical pain, you are going to have to try to put some joy in your life, although you have nothing to laugh about, laughter is the best medicine. It increases your immune system and really aids in healing. Why dont your rent some funny movies, and try to improve your mindset. Naturally you are feeling depressed and it will only get worse if you dont focus on something else. It is so easy to give advice, I know, but I have done alot of research on laughing and its benefits. I have also had alot of health issues and some, believe it or not, were entirely stress related. I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck!

Ben while reading this I feel like you took me on a journey of your day and your thoughts and I was with you all the way, understanding everything you said, it all made sense and you made some valid points and had some terrific insights, thats what growing means....you are growing, have been growing and learning and know that by writing you will learn more about yourself. Sometimes we do not know whats on our mind until we empty it. Sometimes we do not know whats bothering us until we start writing down our thoughts. Sometimes we feel we can never heal or feel good again, but writing can do all that for us. Its such a gift. Ben, you are a writer! You have been searching and searching and its ben (pun) here all the time, clear as the nose on your face. I have so much more to say about all of this, but if you are anything like my kids, Ive already lost your attention, becuase I cant make it short and sweet, so I will save the rest for later. Im just glad you felt better after writing than you did before you started...thats usually what happens...and thats just one of the reasons why I really love to write!

What are you going to do with all your work, you must do something...do you have anything published? I bet you do!

Posted in I Can't Say No To You on 2008-04-07 22:35:01
I like your idea to be friends with someone first and not accepting gifts, just make it clear up front...sometimes when they buy you things, they think they own you or you owe them. Its a different story if you are in a committed relationship...but sounds like you are not there yet...you should try getting involved in an activity where you are exposed to alot of differnt people that yu could get to know and observe long before you have to make any decisions about them...here I go again, volunteer for something and you will find a common denominator with someone.

Posted in Nothing Else Compares on 2008-04-07 22:26:13
dont say never, you may have it someday and I hope you do...I feel sorry for you that you did not have that growing up. Thats what they call thriving. When a baby is thriving he is feeling loved and safe and secure. Its such a shame you never received that, but its never too late. Crying is good for you, its a release so you are doing the right thing...never keep it in. Try giving people some hugs and I know you will start getting them in return. Keep in touch! Pun intended. We all need to touch and be touched. I will be back to check in on you, good luck. I just had one more idea. There are people who just rock babies in the hospital. They volunteer to sit in a rocking chair and rock babies who for one reason or another do not have someone to rock them. Its so important to your future health as you can attest, that a baby be held and rocked. Maybe if you volunteer, you can get some of the warm feelings you missed as a child while you are giving them some attention.

No one should ever tell you or anyone ... for that matter ...that you have no life!!!!!!!!!!?????????????? I just do not understand why someone would ever say something like that...I am not sure how this person communicated this to you, but shame on them and how foolish.... it is such an intrusion and no one knows anything about you better than you! Sorry your feelings were hurt. I pray you are not mad at me for saying I was bombarded by the news...I truly meant no harm....I knew I should have stayed out of it, those forums can be dangerous...they are like dark streets sometimes, better off to steer clear once in awhile...especially if you are in a bad mood...sometimes we all are misunderstood, and when you write something down, its hard to take it back, or change your mind, because it takes on a life of its own. Miss Marie, you have so many friends here, its practically a fan club, so you do not have to worry about a thing.
