Coaches
some good... others, not so good
all
a learning experience
my
father was a basketball coach
for Mt. Carmel
many years ago
and
is a proud member of their
hall of fame.
He is responsible for obtaining many scholarships
awarded to his athletes
which allowed them
to attend
colleges like Notre Dame,
who otherwise would not have been able to afford an education.
A lot of these guys are pretty successful today too
as result of his efforts.
My husband coached all our kids in baseball, softball and basketball for many years and he empowered his teams,
made them believe in themselves,
gave them confidence
besides improving their performance
gave them wonderful memories
of special moments in their lives
which they will never forget....
some coaches
yell and scream to get their point across
and penalize the players for making mistakes
sitting them on the bench
without giving them a reason why.
Some coaches demean their players
and expect them to give 200%
who keep them way past their allotted time for practice,
who force an impossible schedule upon them
and make them practice over holidays....
who seem to forget
the poor kids have homework and a life and family
granted
some of this is necessary,
coaches must remember they are dealing with falable human beings
I could go on and on
pointing out the various traits
that distinguish between a coach/mentor and
someone on the opposite end of the spectrum
although
my gripe is about the coaches who sit their seniors on the bench
to give the younger players experience
did they ever hear of the right of passage?
the younger players will gain experience watching from the bench
and learning from the older players
The loyal athletes
the team players
who have sacrrified
and
hung in there
and given it their all for 4 years
should be the ones scoring the points
and
making it into the school announcements
the younger players will have their day
