an adventure
taking the dogs for a walk
This morning I woke all excited about the change in weather.
Sick of summer,
the fall air
and
temperature
made me want to be outside
to embrace my favorite time of year.
I decided I was going to take the dogs on a long walk.
Once they make it out the back door, they sniff at everything like there's no tomorrow.
Max and Molly are like two crazed kids in a candy store, running all over the place,
just so happy to have the sun and wind in their face.
My definition of walking the dogs is quite different from that of my husbands.
He sees it as a duty,
a job,
the walk has a purpose,
a starting point,
a predetermined route
and
a finish line.
I on the other hand
think of going for a walk with the dogs as an adventure.
Who knows where the leash might lead me?
I have no desire to walk in a tired circle around a subdivision.
There is so much out there to discover.
I'm totally opened
to new possibilities
while I'm strolling along
admiring nature and pretty houses.
All the details along the way capture my interest
from new landscaping to new additions.
This is precisely the time I am able to actually stop to smell the roses,
a treat that seems to allude so many people because of their hectic lives.
This morning right before I was leaving I received a call from a massage therapist
Seems their computer crashed and they did not know if I had an appointment today.
I told them my neck was giving me problems and that I had intended to call
but never got around to it. They had an opening at 2
so I immediately booked it
and headed out the door with my little pups.
My adventure always begins at the bottom of our driveway
when I make my one and only decision,
left or right?
Today I took a right and ended up 2 blocks away admiring one of my favorite houses.
It just so happened that the owner
whom I had never met
was getting his mail.
We began a conversation and before I knew it I was invited around to the back
to meet the wife and kids.
The darling little tots,
much younger than my own,
got a big kick out of my dogs
and
his wife and I discovered we had a number of mutual friends
as well as interests.
I've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years
and
they have resided in this gorgeous home for 13 of them.
Coincidently
this women had her own business,
one that I had been researching for weeks.
As she handed me her card,
I noticed my husbands car out front...
He had been looking for me.
If I had chit chatted much longer
I would have missed my massage.
I hopped in the car full of scoop and emptied of all dog poop
and that's another story
My next destination held all sorts of possibilities,
but I knew one thing for sure
the therapist was not going to rub me the wrong way
up until this point, it had been a perfect day
so far ...so good
