A stranger at my own party
I attended an extremely large all girls Catholic High School
in the city of Chicago
and
was afraid of my own shadow

Confidence alluded me,

my freshman year was the year from hell

A group of mean girls,
I named, the rat pack
tortured me
not physically,
mentally
subjecting me to humiliation every single day
(thats another story)

It got so bad, I ate my lunch in the bathroom to get away from them
I had such little self esteem to begin with
which was totally worn away after a year
of dodging those visious gals in the hallways
unfortunetly,
I never confided in anyone about my precarious situation
althought my  mom must have mentioned to her cousin
that I seemed down in the dumps
so she and her generous cousin
decided it would be a dandy idea to hold a surprise party
for my 14th b day!
neither of them had any idea there was so much drama
taking place in my life
behind the scenes

My moms cousin had a niece who was also a freshman at the school
she called upon her to be in charge of the guest list

my poor second cousin, had no idea who to invite
its not like I was miss popularity

so she simply asked all her friends
to attend
I did not even know half their names

Just imagine my embarrassment
when this group of strangers
along with my smiling mom and aunt
yelled

surprise!

when I walked in the house
filled with balloons and streamers
Oh boy
I certainly was surprised
and a stranger at my own party!

(the second in a series of not so great b days)

Wow, that must have been awkward. I think all girls have dealt with "mean girls" at one time or another - I know I did. Thankfully, those days are over! Nice post, as always.

Awwww, that brat pack attended every school. I knew them at St. Whoever the Martyr. Where I attended. Where are they now? Answer, still playing one-up at the plastic surgeons. Your Mom tried at least.

That must have been weird. I know I had my share of mean kids in elementary school. Did you make friends with any of them after?

But look at how you are now Rose. I truly believe people who have had a painful past are the best people to have as friends. As I've said before 'Hurt people hurt. Healed hurt people help others.'

I'm sorry you had that nasty bunch of girls torture you, kids can be soooo mean.
Thank Goodness those days are over, maybe this year you can have a party and have your loved ones there to help you celebrate.
I always wonder where there kids are now too.
I know at my class re-union it was so obvious that things change, if you know what I mean :)
