class was called off because of traffic ...

the teacher needs to consult her manual...Did you ever try to teach a life lesson to a kid?

It’s almost impossible

Because they learn by example

So if you want to teach them something

You need to set a good example

I was trying to have a mother daughter moment in the car today

we were running late and I was caught in traffic.

I tried to explain to her how sometimes you can’t control the situation

no matter how hard you try

and

you have to learn how to cope without stressing out.

I tried to make a little conversation to get her mind off the slow car in front of us,

but no matter what subject I chose I only seemed to make matters worse.

I changed gears and lanes and made a few suggestions to her about what she could do

to sooth herself in the particular situation we were in.

I told her she could listen to her favorite music,

 and

she said she hated the music I had chosen.

I could have changed the channel but I wanted her to learn from watching me

So I said,

 see,

I guess that’s another thing you cannot control,

So darling

Get your hands off the controls!

Because

that’s what I was doing to stay cool calm and collected.

Moving on, I pointed out that she could play a game with her phone

which she was already doing while she was telling me what lane I should get in,

and blaming me for making us late

and

how she was going to be in big trouble

 and

she did not want to talk about it anymore,

 or her college applications

 or

her messy room and she just couldn’t understand why I did not let her drive

because I drive like an old lady
and we would have been there by now if she was behind the wheel

so I gathered all the patience of a saint
dismissed class
and turned up the music.

and thats another story

Teaching is not an an easy thing to do. Along with learning. Somehow we all find learning a bit easier from having a things happen that are a bit harder to overcome.
Nice to read you.

do as I say, not as I do

that expression is so true

but kids learn from what you do
and never listen to what you say

thats where the expression

what you see is what you get
comes from?
