Chapter 5
Energy
I remember listening to music with my eyes closed. It was Halloween and the teacher was playing records for my third grade class. Our assignment was to listen carefully and notice how they made us feel. But even before then, I had tuned into every sound around me: classmates whispering, a leafless tree scratching against the window, footsteps in the hallway, and the clock ticking overhead. Each rhythm had its own vibration. Each vibration made a different sound. Each sound was music.
Every nearby noise faded when the first piece began to play. Eerily familiar, it made me feel nervous; I had difficulty sitting still in my chair. But, the reason behind my reaction had eluded me, until the teacher revealed its name: “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” I had recently heard it while watching Walt Disney’s film, “Fantasia.”
While I tried to focus on what I was feeling, I couldn’t help seeing Mickey Mouse in my mind. Dressed as a sorcerer, he was surrounded by enchanted brooms. Together, they were catching water in buckets as it cascaded from an overflowing sink onto the floor. Faster and faster, they moved to the music.
That record had conjured an unsettling scene. Mickey Mouse was out of character and frantic because water was flooding the kitchen. Meanwhile, brooms reminiscent of headless people served as “damage control.” I couldn’t wait to open my eyes and clear my mind.
Fortunately, the “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” was ending and the next piece was about to begin. The teacher introduced it over the initial scratches as “Danse Macabre,” French we were told for “Dance of the Dead.” The title scared me, but not as much as the music.
Violins hummed a dissonant melody, filling my head with visions of a creepy, moonlit, Halloween night -- dancing skeletons, ghosts, and goblins snaking through misty graveyards and headless horsemen riding their steeds into the darkness. Faster and louder the music played and everything in my head matched its quickening pace. Then the trumpet sounded; the rooster in my mind crowed to the rising sun. Halloween was over and everything that had emerged from the night, disappeared into the dawn of day.
I have always remembered that music and how it inspired me to invent scary things in my head. Even now, every Halloween, when pumpkins are sitting on porches and skeletons are hanging on doors, “Danse Macabre” still plays from somewhere deep inside me.
Just recently, while I was writing this story, I heard it softly playing in the background of a TV mystery. Recognizing it immediately, I closed my eyes, put down my pen and allowed “Danse Macabre” to transport me back through time. Suddenly, skeletons and goblins emerged from a memory and danced inside my head. I was eight years old again, listening to scary records in school -- feeling the power of music.
* * *
Imagine: Everything in the universe has been set to music. What exactly, would we hear? Would our thoughts sound like a symphony, or a grade school band warming up in the gym? Would our mood sound like wind chimes, dancing in a soft, steady breeze or fingernails dragging across the blackboard? What would our hopes sound like? What would our fears sound like? What would our life sound like?

Thanks so much for your comment. We share the same wavelength- I know exactly what you mean. Music holds so much meaning and power. And it is in everything, everywhere. What a precious, sacred GIFT!

I listen to music all the time and sometimes when I hear certain songs, it's like someone had a direct contact into my life. I think 'omg, I could have written that!'.
I was reading your post on channeling questions. What exactly is channeling and what type of info can you give someone? Insight about their life? loved ones that have gone from this world? their future? I'm curious.

Hi dreampower,
Thanks so much for your comment and question. First to your comment- I know what you mean about songs. Isn't it amazing when you hear someone singing about the details of your life. Listen closely the next time this happens- especially if you "just happen" to hear the perfect song at the perfect time. You are "tuned into" it for a reason. It holds a message for you. Songs hold powerful energies. They can offer us peace and hope and inspiration, as well as confirmation that we're on the right track.
OK, now I'll answer your question. Channeling is the process of receiving spiritual information. This is a gift we all share. Some of us are just more aware of the process than others. There are many different kinds of channels and many different ways to channel. For me, channeling happens through my writing. The best way I can describe the experience to you is through an analogy. Imagine that someone is whispering inspirational messages to you, and all you need to do is be quiet enough to receive them. Basically, for me, channeling is taking dictation-receiving spiritual insights from a "Higher Source" and writing them down.
When I worked as a psychic, I was able to channel exactly the type of information you listed above. Now, as a healer, I offer people insight and spiritual guidance. I interpret their personal circumstances from a higher perspective, and at the same time, help them to get to a much better place.
I hope I answered your question!
Peacefully,
Robin
