Today was another fairly quiet day, although Anna was stressed out a lot, storming and sweating. She was hyperextending her left knee quite badly, and generally not doing so well. It's hard to see her struggling like that.
Lord willing we are definitely going to start on the hyperbaric oxygen treatment very soon – hopefully even next week. We found a place that’s not so far away, you can see it at www.sarasgarden.org, if you click on “History” it has an interesting story behind it. She will have 40 therapies, 2 a day for 20 days. Anna will sit inside a pressurized tank and breathe pure oxygen for about an hour at a time. It’s an FDA-approved treatment for a variety of medical conditions, but has not yet been approved for anoxic brain injury. There are many testimonies of patients in Anna’s condition responding very well to it, so we plan to try it and see. The increased pressure helps the blood to carry far more oxygen than normal, so it really helps to clean out dead cells and rejuvenate marginal ones. I figure I might have a session or two also…!
If anyone knows any dietary supplements that are good for the brain, please let me know also. Omega 3, glyconutritionals, carrots…?
The bottom line - PLEASE PRAY that Anna's brain would continue to RECOVER!
We got a new smaller trach in the mail today, so we plan on downsizing very shortly, maybe even tonight. PLEASE PRAY that it goes well, and that she’ll be less stressed over her breathing!
Also we are REALLY hoping to arrange for a nurse to come every Sunday morning, so we can go to church together. PLEASE PRAY that this works out! And don't feel guilty, the nurse goes to church on Saturday anyway... :)

Sister Lael and Brother Richard,
We will pray for you about the oxygen treatments and the trach downsizing. She will do great! We love you guys and know that God picked you for this trial because of His faith in you as His children. You are amazing and inspiring.
I hope to visit soon and maybe the kids and I can make some caramel apples together. We'll clean up the kitchen! Have a great night and sleep well. You too, Anna. God Bless You.

A Hyperbaric Center opened in Spokane, WA, where we live, about a year ago. Since then, the news has done quite a few pieces on who and how it is helping. My husband and I remembered a young boy, around 1 or so, that had drowned in the bathtub. He had started going to the hyperbaric center for treatments, and had made unbelieveable process. I will try to find the story for you!

That would be great if you can get a nurse for Sunday. We will pray for that! I'm so glad she is doing well enough to attempt downsizing the trach again. That's exciting! I know we all live in a world where we want to see everything right now, but it is encouraging to see Anna making small steps of progress. As we have posted many times before, they may not look like much from where you are but being a little further back we do see a steady gain with a step back here and there. Hang in there. God has not brought you this far to let you down now!
