Driving in Kansas can be quite an experience. On the Missouri side, the numbered streets are basically what they say they are: 39th St. is 39th, it does not turn into 35th. There are exceptions, maybe, but I can't think of any. Numbered streets can turn into blvds, etc., but that's about as fancy as it gets.
On the Kansas side, the numbered streets are more like an estimate. 85th can turn into 79th, make no mistake. For this reason, all streets in Kansas should be labeled as "ish" (i.e. 80-ish). This would take care of the illusion that the driver could actually know which direction is being taken.
I saw an actual fox, a red fox, running across the church yard, right there on my street. I couldn't believe it. I spent so many years of my life out on a farm, and I have never seen a fox until today. So cool.
Only now I am a little concerned, as apparently they're not joking around when they given communities names like Fox's Glen, or Lion's Gate. Kansas doesn't joke around too much. There appear to be gas lamps on pillars. It seems like they should be fake, but I don't think they are.
I went to Blockbuster after work today, and I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but I did get season 4 of the L word, Frida, and Mr. Bean's european Vacation (or something like that). I had forgotten why I hadn't been to Blockbuster in so long: the selection is pretty basic, really. I didn't even find my favorite foreign film (Like Water for Chocolate). Ah, well, back to Netflix.
And back to driving. Driving from the MO side back to KS is still a little mysterious, I can't quite figure out what anyone was thinking when they designed the roads this way. The truth is, even if I had a gps, I'd probably take opportunities to turn it off. I love it when I go somewhere, and end up somewhere entirely unexpected. Or look up thinking how did that just happen? Yeah. Add KS roads to one of the wonders of the world.
