Hey Mommy!!
I have been emailing everyone like crazy, and talking about this so
often, and thinking about it almost nonstop. I think this is just so
super important, though, that it is worth just getting it out there.
I watched a movie last night about the Venezuelan revolution that is
going on right now. I won't go into detail, but the point is it is
SUPER exciting, and as we were watching... I just felt like I was
slapped in the face with an obvious solution of how to run a country.
It seemed so simple, so obvious, I didn't know why this idea was so
revolutionary!
But it occurred to me that people get so used to the way things are
that they don't even consider it, they don't even think about it.
Well, I have always felt like my way of doing things and thinking
about things was a little different from everyone else's, but I didn't
think about it too much. And the point is, I think I have some ways of
thinking about things which to me are obvious so I don't even bother
talking about them, but it is occurring to me more and more every day
that other people think differently than I do so maybe these ideas are
NOT obvious to them.
So right now, my big thought is just thinking about people as people.
I realized talking to Ben last night, who is a self-proclaimed
communist, that he kept using really loaded and negative words when
describing rich people and capitalists. While I strongly agree with
the socialism ideals and am SUPER in love with the socialism that is
arising in Venezuela, I think that by using slanted language to
describe the other "side" is really detremental to getting the point
accross. Not only the language, but the way you THINK of those people.
And it occurred to me, there are people who actually buy into
stereotypes, that is why they are so popular- but they are COMPLETELY
unneccessary. It is one thing to have representatives from a group
talk on behalf of the group, but even then people should realize that
not everyone will agree with all of those representatives opinions.
What I am getting at is that .. I have always been wary of stereotypes
but saw the place that they serve. Now, I realize that they are
completely irrelevant, and it is not necessary to think of people in
those terms. I think a lot of the problems in the world stem from
people forgetting that other people are still people, who think and
work and eat and have feelings and valid ideas. So I think that by
changing the way people are taught to think of others, that is how we
can change the world.
And I am so excited about it!!
I hope you have had a lovely easter.
I love you Mommy!!
