There are libertarian capitalists and there are libertarian socialists.
As a professed libertarian socialist, I regard libertarianism as identical with anarchism.
I regard libertarian socialism as equivalent to anarchist communism. But, there are
left-wing libertarians who will agree with me, and there are right-wing libertarians who
will disagree with me. There are right-wing libertarians who disassociate their political
philosophy from anarcho-capitalists. In my opinion, a consistent libertarianism is fully
consonant with anarchism.
The ideology and philosophy of the libertarian capitalists is synonymous with the ideology
and philosophy of classical liberalism, which is also known as laissez-faire liberalism.
Today's liberals no longer place their faith in a radical doctrine of laissez-faire, and are
more likely to favor government regulation of the economy, the sphere of private business
activities and transactions taking place in civil society, and usually favor welfare-state
policies.
"We are now again in an epoch of wars of religion, but a religion is now called an 'ideology'."
-- Bertrand Arthur William Russell
