 Thoughts
It is possible, perhaps even likely, that there are other-than-human sentient beings;
but, when we talk of human consciousness, we usually have the understanding that
the human consciousness has some infinite/infinitesimal qualitative difference from
the consciousness of other animals, or, perhaps, plants.  The spiritualist/creationist
is likely going to give the qualitative difference between human consciousness and
animal consciousness an infinite measure, a macrocosmic meaning; while the
modern materialist/secularist is more likely going to give the quintessential distinction
between human and animal consciousness an infinitesimal measure, a microscopic
meaning.

"It is difficult to make our material condition better by the best laws, but it is easy
enough to ruin it by bad laws."
-- Theodore Roosevelt
