If rights have something to do with the way our brains are wired, then we are still
the authors and the creators of whatever social organization we have constituted.
Empathy makes society a natural possibility; ethical conventions and political
constitutions are what make an organized society both real and objective.

There is organic biological evolution of the species, and there is also a morphological
evolution of society, an evolution that is more or less conscious. Our conventions
evolve, and so also do our societies. The human brain and human society have
evolved together in a kind of mutual progression. Society influences the brain's
evolution, and vice versa.
