Capitalism necessitates an authoritarian form of government. Capitalism needs a
strong-arm state, a coercive and bullying state, a disciplinarian state, precisely
because the majority would never tolerate exclusive monopoly proprietorship of the
means of production unless such an arrangement is enforced by a militant state
with a monopoly consolidation and intensification of organized marshal and martial
powers. Capitalism is a form of élitism, and every form of élitism requires a form of
étatism to defend and maintain it by the use violent force, or by the threat of force,
whether the force be overt or covert. Capitalism needs statism. Workplace
authoritarianism demands a generalized and universalized authoritarianism, and
the modern state accomplishes this necessity.
"I have too much respect for the idea of God to make it responsible for such an
absurd world."
-- Georges Duhamel
I do have prejudices, and some of them are intentional, while some are the product
of my experiences, my upbringing, my environment, my acculturation, my education,
and my reading. Some of my prejudices are studied and deliberate, philosophical
and conscious, logical and reasoned.
"Insofar as reason is hidden, let us be content with authority."
-- Pierre Abélard (Peter Abelard)
