The moral attitude of trustworthy and praiseworthy individuals has always set proper
limits to excessive self-interest.
Socialism will very likely collapse into statism if the socialism is federalist, rather than
confederalist. I advocate a form of municipal socialism, with metropolitan areas being
sovereign and autonomous political and territorial units.
I cannot show you such a society. We live in a statist world. What I advocate does not
exist; but I believe it can be made to exist. The kind of confederalist republic I envision
would do away with the nation-state, and would constitute a network of independent,
integrated, and confederated democratic city-states.
In a democracy, we the people are responsible for the government we have.
