In every natural community, individuals abandon their first family in order to establish
a new family.
What I advocate is called by many names. Anarchism. Socialism. Communism,
Democracy, Republicanism. Etc. What I advocate is utopian, because it has no place,
no location, at this present time. What I advocate is idealistic, because it is an ideal
that has yet to be truly and really realized. What I advocate is realistic, because I believe
that it can be fully realized.
If we are free to choose our associations, then we can live in associations as free
persons. If we are free to choose our community, then we can live in community with
other people as free and equal citizens.
There are abnormal families, and there are corrupt societies; but, these perversions
do not reveal or evidence that family and community are merely abstract fictions, or
false illusions.
A dysfunctional family, like a dysfunctional society, ought to be allowed to dissolve, so
that persons can come together in order to form a more functional family, and a more
functional community.
"The idealist is incorrigible -- if he is turned out of his heaven, he makes an ideal of
his hell."
-- Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
