A greedy nature is a nature conditioned, constituted and crystallized by a nurturing of
greed.
The libertarian believes that human beings are able to fulfill moral ought. The
libertarian is a pelagian. Human perfection is possible. Individual perfection
is reachable. Human excellence is attainable. Personal improvement is
achievable.
This present age is in question. The future is in question.
The healthy soul is distinguished by the capacity to accommodate internal
contradictions. The strong and vigorous mind is differentiated by the
intellectual capacity to consider, and to be considerate of, fundamental and
essential contradictions.
There are qualities in human nature which have failed to express themselves
fully in the context of modern competitive capitalism.
The philosopher needs to overcome his age, needs to overcome her time.
The philosopher seeks to overcome his conditions, seeks to overcome her
circumstances.
Self-discovery is self-creation; self-creation is self-discovery.
Every discovery of truth is also and always an invention of truth.
Modern capitalism rewards its affluent slaves with material comforts and spiritual
anesthesia.
A bad ecology comes from a bad economy. Bad economics produces a bad ecology.
Today's morality is a morality of domestication.
The constructivist denies that there is any essential human nature. The constructivist
argues that human nature is merely a cultural product, that human nature is an artifact,
often invented by one part of society in order to suppress another part of society.
Human life is necessarily social. Human being is naturally species being.
The ideological guardians of capitalism believe in freedom; but, they confuse market
freedom with moral freedom. They worship and venerate market freedoms and rights,
even as they weaken and violate moral freedoms and duties.
Free people express themselves in the creation of institutions which are supportive
of spontaneous and voluntary styles of conduct.
If we are ever to overcome capitalism, if we are ever to originate social-democracy,
the working class must become the revolutionary subject, the working class must
become creative citizens.
Education for freedom is not just an education for cultural literacy; it is also an
education for moral literacy. |
